Pulse Amplitude Modulation Piezo Driver

Scope:
• Develop an electrical circuit to drive a piezoelectric transducer at resonance from an input signal 30kHz to
140kHz.
• If possible, use a simulator to verify your design.
• Submit the circuit for our technical department to build a prototype.
• Submit any design parameters that will minimise EMR.
• After testing the prototype, our feedback may then require further circuit development by you.

Pulse Amplitude Modulation:

Upper trace is output. Lower trace is input.

Specifications:
• Sampling frequency: Nominally 1MHz, which tracks the piezo transducer’s resonant frequency.
• Input frequency range: 30kHz to 140kHz.
• Input amplitude: 1-volt rms .
• Maximum output to piezo transducer: 200 volts rms @ 1-volt rms input.
• Output filtering: To Be discussed.
• Supply voltages: To be discussed. Anything between 12 volts dc and 200 volts dc.

Piezo Transducer:
Output transducer: 1MHz piezo disc 28mm diameter with P4 material, as documented at:
