Megalodon

-Megalodon meaning "big tooth", is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago.
It was formerly thought to be a member of the family lamnidae and a close relative to the great white shark.

-The megalodon has existed from the early Miocene to the Pliocene epoch.

-Like other sharks, the megalodon had streamline yet powerful bodies built to effeciently cut through the water. It
also had the ability to regulate and warm it's body temperature in colder oceans.

E. How it became extinct

-Like some extinct animals, the megalodon species died due to other marine predators competing against them
over food contributing to the extinction of the megalodon.

F. Importance contribution of it's existence

-Megalodon is an apex predator so when it's population decreased, large predatory whales and small sharks fill in
their place in the food web and changed the ocean's biodiversity.
