First Term Exam

Part One: Reading and Interpreting (15pts)

Facebook is a social networking website where users can chat, share pictures, music, videos, and
articles as well as their own thoughts and opinions with anyone they like. It became the most popular social
media platform in the world. (§1)

This networking website began in February 2004, as an educational social network at Harvard
University. It was created by Mark Zuckerberg along with Edward Savarin; both of them are students at the
college. It was not until 2006 that Facebook got opened to anyone who was 13 years or older. (§2)

Facebook has many interesting features that led to its success. For example, it supports online chat
and the ability to comment on friends' profile pages or share information. It, also, allows its users to
maintain a friend's list and choose privacy settings to decide who can see the content on their profile. In
addition to that, in Facebook, people can upload and share their photos and videos with their family and
friends. (§3)
