Exercise 1:
Transgenesis is a process used to modify the hereditary characteristics of animal and plants. Here is one of the examples
of this process. Observe it then answer the following questions.

1- Describe this process.

2- How many new born mice are considered as transgenic ones? Explain why.
3- Formulate a hypothesis to explain the inability for the other(s) to be a transgenic.
4- Indicate the aim of this experiment.

Exercise 2 :Cell cycle

The duration of each phase in the cell cycle differs from
each other. In addition these differences occur at the
level of the duration cell cycle between a cell and
another type of cells.
The following figure shows the cell cycle of a cell
during its different phases; the letters from (a➔ e)
represent these phases.
1- According to the evolution of chromosomes shown in
the adjacent document, label these letters from (a➔e).
2- Calculate the duration of the interphase.
3- Determine the number of chromosomes obtained
from 64 bone cells produced from the mother cell.
The microscopic observation of the nucleofilament of a
chromatin of this cell cultured shows the following
representation
4- Specify this phase in the cell cycle. Name the enzymes
interfere in the shown process. Indicate their roles

The figures below show 2 possible representation of DNA

replication
5- Identify the correct model obtained at the end of this process. (1pt)

Exercise 3:
Part A:RNA Synthesis
Two amoebas (A and B) are placed in a nutritive medium, but in (A), a radioactive precursor of RNA (uracil) is added.
The steps of this experiment are present in the document below:

1- Explain the results obtained.

2- Indicate the importance of using radioactive uracil.
3- Make a comparative table between DNA and RNA including: location, type of sugar, number of strands.

Part B:

1. Name the process shown in the adjacent figure and state its
location.
2. Label each letter.
3. Indicate the importance of this biological process.

Exercise 4: Observe the following figures then answer the following questions.

A B C
Part A:
1-The above figures show the cells in different steps of a cellular division. Name this process.
2-Identify the phase corresponding to each figure.
3- Schematize the last phase of this division

Part B:
Ahmad and Roula are expecting a baby. To detect the presence of
any abnormality, they decided to make karyotyping for cells
taken from the embryo. The adjacent diagram shows the results.
1-State other information that can be determined upon
karyotyping.
2-Determine whether the infant born will be normal or suffers
from an abnormality.
3- Write the chromosomal formula of this karyotype.
4- Indicate the importance of:
- using colchicine
- staining or adding a dye.
