Introduction:
In our world, there are a lot of organism which is each organism is been classified into some
level and rank that called as taxonomic rank. Taxonomic rank can be defined as the relative
level of a group of organisms by following their ancestral or the hereditary hierarchy
(Wikipedia, n.d.). Taxonomic rank or also can be called as Linnaeus’ hierarchical that consist
with seven level which is the from the largest as the highest to the smallest as the lowest.
The hierarchy starts with kingdom as the biggest and followed by phylum, class, order,
family, genus and species. Species is the lowest level in the rank where it refers to a group
of organism that have a similar characteristic such as the form, reproductive features or from
the shape. When there are a group contains of similar species, it will form a genus which is
there are two types of genus which is monotypic and polytypic. A various of genera that
similar with each other will form families. After that is order which is order can be form from
one or more similar families and order is more specific rank rather than class. The general
rank in taxonomic is class because there are no specific rank in it and it is not used
frequently today. The second largest is phylum where phylum is more specific rather than
kingdom and last but not least is the largest in the hierarchy which is kingdom. Kingdom is
divided into subgroups at a various levels which is there are five kingdom that been
classified for living organism which is animalia, plantae, fungi, protista and monera.
Taxonomic rank is so important to help scientists to understand and organise each living
organism in the diversity and also help people to study about plant and animal traits better.
