Death of a Salesman

According to the guidelines set forth by the essays " Aristotle

on Tragedy" and " Tragedy and the common man," the play
"Death of a salesman," written by Arthur, is considered to be
a tragedy. In order for a story to be considered a tragedy, it
must have certain characteristics, such as; tragic flaw, it
must arouse pity and fear through an alteration in the status
of the central character, and that the main character is
attempting to gain his Because "Death of a Salesman" has all
three of these qualities, in my opinion, it is best categorized
as a tragic work of fiction.

According to Aristotle, a tragic fault is the character's mistake

that leads to his downfall or puts him in a position where he
must face vengeance. The sad defect that plagues Willy
Loman, the main character in Arthur Miller's play "Death of
a Salesman," is that he lives in the past. This is something
that he does because, in the past, he has had a lot of very
high expectations, but in the present, those expectations are
completely gone. Because he is dissatisfied, he dwells on the
good old days, when all of his ambitions might be realized.
He never stops convincing himself that the present is
identical to the way things were in the past, but he refuses to
acknowledge the fact that none of his anticipations came
true.

Willy is a victim of circumstance, and you can't help but feel

sorry for him. The difficulties he faces both at home and in
his professional life make the audience feel sorry for him.
You are able to look past all of the negativity and sense his
suffering, despite the fact that it is common knowledge that
he is not a decent guy. In spite of the fact that he has not
achieved any success in his business endeavors, he has
managed to persuade himself that he is a prosperous
entrepreneur. When someone lies to oneself and then begins to
believe the lie they told themselves, you know it's a dangerous
sign.

Willy spends the whole of the play making little more than a
valiant effort to achieve his goal of being a prosperous
businessman. He believes that if he can become a great
businessman, he would be able to improve his life, and this
is one of the things he is doing to achieve this goal.
