The dist rict consist s of t wo subdivisions - (1) Dhalbhum subdivision wit h Pat amda, Boram,
Golmuri-cum-Jugsalai and Pot ka CD blocks, and (2) Ghat shila subdivision wit h Ghat shila,
Dhalbhumgarh, Musabani, Dumaria, Gurbandha, Chakulia and Baharagora CD blocks.[1]

Education

In 2011, in Ghat shila subdivision out of a t ot al 1,086 inhabit ed villages in 7 CD blocks t here were
80 villages wit h pre-primary schools, 768 villages wit h primary schools, 281 villages wit h middle
schools, 51 villages wit h secondary schools, 11 villages wit h senior secondary schools, 4 villages
wit h general degree colleges, 304 villages wit h no educat ional facilit y.[4]

The 4 census t owns + 1 nagar panchayat had 54 primary schools, 30 middle schools, 21
secondary schools, 11 senior secondary schools, 6 general degree colleges. (Census t owns are
normally considered t o be a part of t he CD block but it is not clear where t hese are being
considered here).[4]

.*Senior secondary schools are also known as Int er colleges in Jharkhand.

Educational institutions

The following inst it ut ions are locat ed in Ghat shila subdivision:

Ghat shila College was est ablished at Ghat shila in 1961.[5]

Baharagora College was est ablished at Baharagora in 1969.[6]

Shibu Ranjan Khan Memorial Degree College was est ablished at Chakuliya in 2010.[7]

BDSL Mahila College, Ghat sila was est ablished at Ghat sila in 1982.[8]

In 2011, in Ghat shia subdivision, in t he 7 CD blocks, t here were 9 villages wit h primary healt h

cent res, 5 villages wit h allopat hic hospit als, 11 villages wit h dispensaries, 1 village wit h a
vet erinary hospit al, 27 villages wit h family welfare cent res, 38 villages wit h medicine shops.[4]

mat ernit y and child welfare cent res, 45 medicine shops. (Census t owns are normally considered
t o be a part of t he CD block but it is not clear where t hese are being considered here).
