Internal ramp failure
As a result of the technical inspection of the ramp hydraulic system, it was revealed that
when the hydraulic valve of the support is activated, the actual movement occurs with a very
long delay (more than 1 minute). The hydraulic system pump develops the required pressure,
but the specified delay is due to a weak signal of the control line LS.

Possible causes:

1. Since the hydraulic power pack is located at a considerable distance from the control
post, which should have been taken into account when calculating the pipelines of the hydraulic
system. For a given distance (>80 meters), the cross-section of the LS line pipeline must be
selected greater than 8 mm.
2. The problem of insufficient cross-section of pipelines is aggravated by the increased
viscosity of the oil at low temperatures. Since the frequency of operation of this hydraulic system
is low, the natural heating of the oil occurs very slowly. The factor of the long length of the LS
line affects the heat transfer rate - at an ambient temperature of +5℃, the oil temperature in the
LS line has a temperature of about +10℃, the oil in the LS line does not warm up at all. The
increased viscosity of the oil at such temperatures dramatically increases the pressure loss on
the pipeline. With a further decrease in the ambient temperature, the problem will worsen, up to
a complete failure of the hydraulic system.
3. An incorrect adjustment of the hydraulic pump regulator is also possible.
4. In this hydraulic system, in addition to the main pump, there is a backup, LS line of the
backup pump must be cut off from the general LS line, since significant leaks are present
through the regulator of the disconnected pump.

To confirm (or refute) the listed potential causes of the malfunction, it is necessary to perform
a deeper instrumental diagnosis with objective data on the actual pressures and flow rates at
different points of the hydraulic system. However, due to the absence of control points in the
hydraulic system, it was not possible to make measurements of the parameters of the hydraulic
system on the first visit to vessel.

Other Remarks:

Also, it was observed numerous leaks of the working fluid through the hydraulic connections
of the pipelines of the ramp hydraulic system.
