MasterSeal 610
A bitumen coating for protection of concrete against chlorides and low level sulphates
or as a vapour barrier
Specification clause
Concrete sealing and protection
Where indicated, concrete shall be sealed and protected with MasterSeal 610, a
bitumen emulsion from MBT. It shall comply with the recommendations of to ACI 515 IR -
79, and should dry to a seamless, flexible, vapour proof membrane.
1. GENERAL:
1.1. The area to be coated shall be free of weak concrete or laitance, mould release
oils, grease or any contaminants that could impair adhesion.
1.2. Remove weak concrete or laitance using broom, oil free compressed air or by
water jetting.
1.3. Defects requiring repair shall be made good with the appropriate MBT product.
1.5. Arrises shall be rounded off and surface protrusions shall be ground off to ensure a
smooth substrate.

1.6. As settlement can occur, agitate the contents or roll the drum vigorously before
use.
2. PRIMING:
2.1. Porous, dusty surfaces shall be primed with a dilute solution of MASTERSEAL 410 to
seal the surface.
2.2. To one part of MasterSeal 610 add one part of clean water and mix together.
2.3. Apply the diluted primer by brush, roller or spray to the previously prepared
surface and allow to dry.
3. APPLICATION:
3.1. Apply a minimum of 2 coats of MasterSeal 610 at the rate of 2m² per litre by brush,
roller or spray to the previously prepared surface.
3.2. Allow the first coat to dry for not less than 12 hours before the second coat is
applied. Ensure that all pinholes and blowholes are filled when the second coat is
applied.
3.3. If the coating is to be permanently exposed, broadcast clean dry sharp sand into
the final coat whilst it is still wet.
3.4. In areas that are to be backfilled, protect the coating from damage using
protective boards or heavy gauge polythene sheet.
4. CURING:
4.1. MasterSeal 610 does not require curing, but should be allowed to dry for 3-5 days
before backfilling.
