APPLICATION PROCEDURE
SURFACE PREPARATION:
Ensure surface to be treated is sound and free of all oil, STANDARDS
grease or conventional curing compounds. MasterSeal ACI 515 IR-79. Guide to use of waterproofing, damp

APPLICATIONS
Agitate before use. As settlement can occur, the drum
should be rolled before decanting material.
PERFORMANCE
- MasterSeal 610 will act as a curing compound when
applied to green concrete. Apply immediately when
formwork is removed.
- Will act as a primer for most bitumen based
membranes.
- Concrete coated with MasterSeal 610 will prevent
the absorption of saline solutions. On uncoated
surfaces, salts in groundwater will penetrate and can
cause reinforcement corrosion and concrete
deterioration.
Apply by brush, broom or squeegee. Apply one or two
coats, depending on the degree of protection required.
Apply subsequent coats at right angles to the first,
allowing 12 to 24 hours between coats. Where being
utilized to damp proof solid floors or where a screed is to
be applied over MasterSeal 610, apply a second coat at
right angles and lightly grit to form a key. Allow at least
24 hours before application of concrete screed, ensuring
this is greater than 60mm in thickness.
COVERAGE
2-4 m² per liter per coat depending on use and substrate
porosity.
EQUIPMENT CARE
After use, if the MasterSeal 610 has not dried, it may be
possible to clean tools using soapy water. If the
MasterSeal 610 has dried remove as much as possible
by physically scraping and then remove remainder with
paraffin, white spirit or MasterTop Thinner No. 2.
MasterSeal® 610
STORAGE
Store under cover, out of direct sunlight and protect from
extremes of temperature. In tropical climates the product
must be stored in an air-conditioned environment. As
with all bituminous emulsions, some settlement will
occur with prolonged storage. It is, therefore, necessary
to invert the drums monthly to disperse the settlement.
Shelf life is up to 6 month in unopened containers, when
stored as above.
Failure to comply with the recommended storage
conditions may result in premature deterioration of the
product or packaging. For specific storage advice
consult Master Builders Solutions's Technical Services
Department.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
As with all chemical products, care should be taken
during use and storage to avoid contact with eyes,
mouth, skin and foodstuffs. Treat splashes to eyes and
skin immediately. If accidentally ingested, seek medical
attention. Reseal containers after use. Use in well
ventilated areas and avoid inhalation. For further
information refer to the material safety data sheet.

THIS METHOD STATEMENT COVERS PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF

MasterSeal 610 (formerly Known as MasterSeal 410)

MasterSeal 610
A bitumen coating for protection of concrete against chlorides and low level sulphates
or as a vapour barrier

Specification clause
Concrete sealing and protection

Where indicated, concrete shall be sealed and protected with MasterSeal 610, a
bitumen emulsion from MBT. It shall comply with the recommendations of to ACI 515 IR -
79, and should dry to a seamless, flexible, vapour proof membrane.

Application shall be conducted strictly in accordance with the manufacturers written

instructions. Material shall be supplied by a manufacturer who's procedures are certified
to conform to the quality management systems described in ISO 9001.

1. GENERAL:

1.1. The area to be coated shall be free of weak concrete or laitance, mould release
oils, grease or any contaminants that could impair adhesion.

1.2. Remove weak concrete or laitance using broom, oil free compressed air or by
water jetting.

1.3. Defects requiring repair shall be made good with the appropriate MBT product.

1.4. Blockwork should be prepared to give a fair faced finish.

1.5. Arrises shall be rounded off and surface protrusions shall be ground off to ensure a
smooth substrate.

1.6. As settlement can occur, agitate the contents or roll the drum vigorously before
use.

2. PRIMING:

2.1. Porous, dusty surfaces shall be primed with a dilute solution of MASTERSEAL 410 to
seal the surface.

2.2. To one part of MasterSeal 610 add one part of clean water and mix together.

2.3. Apply the diluted primer by brush, roller or spray to the previously prepared
surface and allow to dry.

3. APPLICATION:

3.1. Apply a minimum of 2 coats of MasterSeal 610 at the rate of 2m² per litre by brush,
roller or spray to the previously prepared surface.

3.2. Allow the first coat to dry for not less than 12 hours before the second coat is
applied. Ensure that all pinholes and blowholes are filled when the second coat is
applied.

3.3. If the coating is to be permanently exposed, broadcast clean dry sharp sand into
the final coat whilst it is still wet.

3.4. In areas that are to be backfilled, protect the coating from damage using
protective boards or heavy gauge polythene sheet.

4. CURING:

4.1. MasterSeal 610 does not require curing, but should be allowed to dry for 3-5 days
before backfilling.
