The tourism economy has been heavily hit by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and measures

introduced to contain its spread. The Canadian federal government has announced that it will make
vaccinations mandatory for federal employees and also for those working in some federally regulated
industries related to travel and tourism. The government should be educating their populations about
the benefits of vaccines by advertisements and other programs. Because we are now hearing demands
for the freedom to be unvaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19. Brady Ellison, a member of
the United States Olympic archery team, says his decision not to get vaccinated was “one hundred
percent a personal choice,” insisting that “anyone that says otherwise is taking away people’s
freedoms.” In my opinion every person should be vaccinated – but not through physical force or undue
coercion. But government should mandate vaccination to people in high-risk locations.

In my opinion Vaccination should be mandatory on provincial level. So, vaccination could be mandated
by the different provincial authorities based on the specific areas and their conditions. Highly effected
area should be strictly mandated for vaccination and also lockdown should be implemented on the basis
of high or low effected areas.

Beyond immediate measures to support the tourism sector, countries are also shifting to develop
recovery measures. These include considerations on lifting travel restrictions, restoring travelers
confidence and rethinking the tourism sector for the future.

Governments and industry should focus their efforts on:

 Lifting travel restrictions and working with businesses to access liquidity supports, apply
new health protocols for safe travel, and help to diversify their markets.
 Restoring travelers confidence and stimulating demand with new safe and clean labels for
the sector, information apps for visitors and domestic tourism promotion campaigns.
 Preparing comprehensive tourism recovery plans, to rebuild destinations, encourage
innovation and investment, and rethink the tourism sector.
