Macro Perspective of Tourism and Hospitality: Task Performance – Final

1. What is your understanding upon analyzing the article? (Essay: 250 words)

The tourism industry is one of the sectors that would be greatly affected by COVID-19. Covid-19
had a big impact that collapsed the industry due to a fall in export revenues, affecting economies,
livelihoods, public services, and opportunities on all continents. Many people want to travel; however,
they are faced with a barrier as a result of COVID-19. To control the spread of the coronavirus, countries all
around the world have implemented travel restrictions.

The pandemic brought chaos to developing countries in terms of both health and economic
calamity, particularly those that rely heavily on tourism. Governments implement lockdowns, quarantines,
and travel restrictions on both national and international levels to protect their people. Also, the public
chose to limit their international and local travel. That led to a major decrease in the tourist industry,
which has a serious economic impact, particularly for countries that rely on it. Tourism jobs are at risk
because of the travel limitations that the government implemented to reduce the risk of transmission of
COVID-19. While job losses have been in most industries, those that rely on personal contact, such as
hotels, food services, transportation, and recreational activities, have been impacted the worst.

Upon analyzing the facts, it clearly shows how this pandemic hit the tourism economy, livelihoods,
public services, and opportunities. Jobs will be limited, with other industries, such as tourism and
marketing, being affected more than others. As a result, all jobs and funds for nature and culture are at
risk due to the decrease in tourists and staff. Recovering tourism is a priority, and it will take a long time to
recover from the effects of COVID-19 on the tourism sector, with its businesses and livelihoods.

2. What would be your suggested solution for the crisis that tourism faces (as discussed on the article) to
enable the businesses and travelers gain confidence in starting over and travel again? (Explain in length)

The tourism industry should focus on making strategic decisions about the future of tourism in
their countries, including gaining tourist trust, maintaining their reputation, and adapting their operations
to the new normal. In order to do that, first they must assess the impact of COVID-19 because this is an
opportunity to rethink how tourism will be in the future. So, by giving attention and resolving our issues,
we can re-establish and recover from the loss. Those solutions could be useful now and in the future when
the pandemic is under control. Change the company's marketing and sales programs, as well as the
packages they promote. The tourism management must implement hygienic procedures, and these efforts
aim to show the idea of social distance in the workplace as well as the improvements in accommodation.
For the customers to experience a new tourism service and experience something that will make them
ensure that they will enjoy a safe journey and a stress-free, relaxing vacation.

3. How are you going to implement your solution? Provide an explanation for your action plan.

In this proposed action plan, the goal is to implement the solution to bring tourism and enable businesses
back on track, including the development of countries. The industry will adapt and survive the business
recovery when building more resilient and sustainable tourism when restarting.
