Background and Objectives of Industrial Attachment/Internship

Industrial attachment/internship is an integral part of the degree programme done in the third
year or enrolment. During this period, students are expected to use their initiative to map
theories and concepts learnt in class to an actual working environment. The Internship
programme is meant to inculcate in the students the correct work attitude, professionalism,
and observation of their future roles in industry. Students are required to participate and
work as industrial trainees in their chosen disciplines.

Objectives of the Internship programme are:

 To provide students an opportunity gain practical industrial experience within the


Computer / Software/Hardware Engineering disciplines
 To provide an opportunity for the industry to identify potential employees from
among the industrial trainees.
 To help students to learn and refine their technical, interpersonal, communication,
time management and organizational skills.
Industrial Training Assessment:

The industrial training performance assessment is based on:

 Students’ logbook of daily activities


 Students’ Industrial Training Final Report
 Industrial Training Supervisor’s Assessment report/Company Feedback Report where
the student are attached for training.
 Industrial Training Lecturers report through visit or survey.
 A real-life problem solving Project .The Internship project shall constitute 25% (30
Credits) of the overall Level 3 mark.
 The Attachment module shall be examined by an Attachment Report. This shall
constitute 50%

Internship Timeline:

The industrial attachment is normally scheduled for July/ August –July/August the following
year January and should have a minimum of 8 months for all students.

NB: Certain types of work experiences are not eligible for internship course credit, as noted
below:

1. Self-employment.
2. Work performed in a student’s family-owned or family-managed business.
3. Work performed for a student-run organization.

Role of the Departmental Academic Internship Supervisor

Students will complete the internship under an assigned departmental member (internship
supervisor). The internship supervisor will visit the organisation where the student is attached
to assess the assigned student.

To enrich the student’s internship experience, the internship supervisor will be helping the
student in ways such as:
