The new scale for Cambridge English Placement Test

The scale for reporting CEPT results has been changed from a 100-point scale to a 50-point one. This is
because the old 100 point scale was uneven in the number of points at each level. Some levels had 10
points, some had 20 points, and one had 15 points, and one 25 points. The new 50-point scale one is
much simpler - 10 points for each level. The other change is that it doesn't distinguish between
different scores at C1 level - if you are at C1 level, you get '50'. This is because a single all-level test is
not reliable in distinguishing between different advanced level learners.

The table below shows how they map across.

CEFR Level Old 100 Point Scale New 50 Point Scale

Below A1 0-9 0-9
A1 10 - 19 10 - 19
A2 20 - 39 20 - 29
B1 40 - 59 30 - 39
B2 60 - 74 40 - 49
C1 or above 75 - 100 50

Although this change has a rationale, it will cause some issues for your customers who are used to 100-
point scale, and need to adjust their own systems and usage of the CEPT.
