Role and Responsibilities of Cognos Resource.

1. Understand the existing reports and code:

Understand all the existence reports, dash boards and scorecards report, Framework, Packages,
Cubes and Views used in report designing.

2. Documentation:
Detail documentation of Architecture of Framework, Package, Report Design and Algorithm,
Cubes and Views of each report.

3. Reverse Engineering
Lots of reverse engineering required for analysis on any defects. There is no any documentation
available. If any available then it’s not updated.
There are lots of issues and defects are identified, these error could be at any level of report like
Design, Framework, Package, Cube or Views. One has to research and analyze to get to the root
of cause of error.

4. Fix/Update existing reports, develop new reports:

The resource has to do the defect analysis and fix them. There can be a new change in the
design or functionality of existing report. Designing a new report from scratch.

5. Improve performance of reports.

There are few reports whose execution performance is low. One has to analyze the cause and
improve the performance. The issue can be at any level.

6. Reconcile reports with Data Mart and ODS data.

Cross check all the reports from Aggregate level to every dimension level. Also compare the
result of reports with data mart and ODS database.

7. Challenges:
At present there is no cognos resource at Pure plus lack of documentation is the main challenge.
The Cognos resource has to work with SSIS and SQL resources to dig into the code of SQL views.
