CHAPTER I

1.1 Background

Every day, of course, Indonesian people eat rice. Before eating rice, of course, we will carry out the
stages of making rice, one of which is washing the rice. We still encounter many people who just throw
away the water used for washing rice. Even though the content in the water used to wash rice is very
good for plants. In this case, most people ignore this and just throw the water used for washing rice into
the ditch just like that. Many people don't know about the benefits of water used for washing rice,
maybe only a few people understand and do it. In fact, for the growth and development of plants
needed nutrients as a support. With the fulfillment of these nutrients, plants will develop faster than
plants in general. Actually, this household waste is very easy to manage. It's just that there are still many
people who don't understand or maybe don't understand about this. There needs to be a study to show
the public about this. That way, people will understand and start using water used to wash rice.

1.2 Formulation of the problem

Based on the background description above, the problem is formulated as follows: How does rice
washing water affect the growth of chili plants?

1.3 Research objectives In accordance with the formulation of the problem above, the goal to be
achieved in this study is to determine the effect of rice washing water on the growth of chili plants.

1.4 Benefits of research By doing this research, we can get information about the water used for
washing rice that can still be used. Watering the plants will make the plants grow faster. Besides that, it
also adds insight about the water content of used rice washing and about chili plants.

CHAPTER II

2.1 Rice Washing Water

When washing rice, usually the first washing water will be cloudy. The cloudy color of the washing marks
indicates that the outer layer of rice has also been eroded. Although many nutrients have been lost, the
epidermis still contains remnants of these very beneficial nutrients. For example phosphorus (P), one of
the main elements needed by plants and is always present in plant compound fertilizers. Phosphorus
can make plants grow faster. Another nutrient is iron which is important for the formation of green
leaves (chlorophyll). In addition, the epidermis also contains high vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.
The highest nutritional content of rice is found in the epidermis, namely vitamins B1, vitamin B3, vitamin
B6, manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), iron (Fe), fiber, and essential fatty acids which play a role in the
process of fat formation. clean rice. From its biological microstructure, rice water has bacteria that are
capable of fighting pathogens. It can also make pest eggs break prematurely. So it is possible that plants
that are watered with water used for washing rice will grow healthier than watering them with plain
water. Here are some types of good bacteria contained in rice washing water:
1. Bacteria Pseudomonas fluorescens This bacterium is a type of microorganism that is able to adapt and
clone itself well in plant root systems. The advantage is that it can synthesize metabolites whose job is
to inhibit the growth of pathogens.

2. Bacteria Pectolytic pectin Pectin pectolytic bacteria are a type of microbe whose job is to synthesize
carbohydrates and amino acids to produce growth hormones or growth regulators (commonly
abbreviated as ZPT).

3. Bacteria Xanthomas maltophilia This bacterium is capable of infecting powdery mildew pest cells
because of its rapid proliferation at temperatures above 33 degrees Celsius.

One of the macro elements needed by plants is phosphorus. Macro elements are elements that plants
need in large quantities. We can find this phosphorus in plant growth, phosphorus can help accelerate
the growth of seedling roots. It can also strengthen the body of the plant and also accelerate the process
of flowering, fruit and grain ripening. Phosphorus can also increase fruit and grain production . In
addition, plants also need iron (Fe) which is included in the micro-nutrients, namely the nutrients
needed are not much. Iron is useful for plant physiological processes such as breathing processes and
the formation of green leaf substances (chlorophyll). Iron deficiency will cause yellow leaves, then fall. In
addition, the plant will die starting from the top. is water used for washing rice, iron is one of its
ingredients. In addition, the rice washing water formulation is an alternative medium for carrying
Pseudomonas fluorescens which plays a role in controlling pathogens that trigger plant growth.
Bacteria Pseudomonas fluorescens is a bacterium that can adapt well to plant roots and is able to inhibit
the growth and activity of pathogens or make plants more resistant to disease. These bacteria also
produce phytohormones that can stimulate growth, including elongating and enlarging stem cells,
inhibiting the process of leaf shedding, and also stimulating fruit formation.

2.2 Chili Plants

Chili plants are plants that are easy to grow anywhere. does not require special attention in planting it.
Therefore, it will be easier to make observations because the possibility of the plant dying is small. By
paying attention to the problem of easy growth, in this observation using chili plants. Classification of

development. Spermatophyta are plants that produce seeds as a means of sexual reproduction.

CHAPTER III

3.1 Time and Place of Research The research was conducted in February - May 2023 in Lebijaga Village,
Bajawa District

3.2 Research Design By using direct experiments with chili plant media. It is carried out for three
months and will carry out routine checks every 2 days, every 2 days, every 4 days and once a week.
Every time you check, it will be recorded using a table like the following:

3.3 Research Steps The steps in conducting this research are as follows

3.3.1 Plant preparation By preparing 25 chili plants planted in different polybags. Each polybag is
labeled 1 to 25. The first five polybags are for plants that are watered every day. The second five
polybags are for plants that are watered every other day. The third five polybags for plants that are
watered every four days, the fourth five polybags for plants that are watered once a week and the fifth
polybag for plants that are watered regularly.

3.3.2 Prepare water used for washing rice Water used for washing rice is obtained from the house.
Every day the water used for washing rice will always be replaced regularly so that the water used for
washing rice does not grow bacteria or other things. Sprinkling Water used for washing rice is sprinkled
every day, every two days, every four days and once a week. While ordinary water is watered on the
plants every day.

3.3.4 Observation Observations were made by looking at the growth and number of chilies produced.
