A Case Study of Inflation and Its Impact on Some Individuals in the Philippines and

How to Overcome It

INTRODUCTION

The saying "Inflation is dead" has been a catchphrase for the past few years, but it

seems that ingrained issues can find its way back to life. Sudden strike in inflation had a

significant impact on some people in the Philippines since some of them were still

unprepared for it.

I. Background of the Study

In the Philippines, the consumer price inflation rate fluctuated during the course

of the previous 61 years between 0.7% and 50.3%. 3.9% was computed as the inflation

rate for 2021. The average annual growth rate was 8.5% between the years of

observation in 1960 and 2021. The whole price rise was 12,625.67%. Beginning in 2022, a

product that priced 100 pesos in 1960 would cost 12,725.67 pesos. Exogenous supply

shocks over the past 20 years and how economic managers dealt with them have

complicated the examination of the relationship between inflation and output growth.

Stagflation episodes were caused by policies intended to stabilize the economy.

However, inflation starts to drop, but only after contractionary effects on output
continue to have an impact on supply and finally lead to supply bottlenecks that

increase inflationary pressure once more.

Issues on the problem

People are currently going through difficult times as a result of the sudden, high

price strike that is occurring in our country with an open economy. Even for those who

are employed these days, providing for their family's needs while still having a chance

to save for themselves and even providing for their own wants like food and personal

necessities is becoming challenging.

II. Objectives

General Objectives

People will be able to acquire knowledge on being productive by executing some

adjustments to meet their economic needs.

Specific Objectives

At the end of the study, individuals will be able to:

1. Identify the cause of sudden inflation and its history.

2. Specifically acquire the knowledge of budgeting the minimum wage for the family

and their needs.

3. Be productive to produce and provide with gardening or farming for them to be able

to meet their own needs.

4. Learn the importance of saving goods and increase agriculture supplies within

months without too much financial stress.

5. Demonstrate or distribute the knowledge of producing goods to create and supply

more.

A. Needs Analysis

I. Perceived Analysis

A population's impression and ranking of unmet needs are examined using the

perception-based indicator known as perceived needs. The indicator gauges whether

households consider a range of demands to be a "major concern" or not. Perceived

needs are defined as those that people themselves feel or express and that reveal gaps

they are encountering.

As per this case study, perceived analysis will be used in order to collect most

individual's opinion about the sudden strike inflation and its impact on them as a

provider of their family.

II. Assessment Steps

1. DEFINE YOUR COMMUNITY

POPULATION - People currently residing in Balanga and who are

employed/breadwinner of the family. Ages within 21-31 yrs. old.

ATTITUDE AND VALUES - The chosen individuals are the ones who mostly cares

about saving money for themselves, especially on providing enough needs for their family

while undergoing financial stress due to the impact of inflation in their lives.

PLACE - The target place for the case study is inside Balanga City, where we can

find several lands that are free to utilize for farming or gardening more goods in order

to gain supplies without too much expense.

2. IDENTIFY YOUR ASSETS

Sponsors who can help to provide supplies of seeds that can be used for

gardening and planting some goods that may definitely help the people in need

when time comes. Materials can also be acquired to some places such as schools who

studied agricultural needs.

3. COLLECT COMMUNITY DATA

As per the study, google forms/survey is the method chosen for collecting data

since it displays as numbers or percentage and is represented by a name.

AN EMPLOYED PERSON - A group of ZIP codes can serve as the geographic

emphasis, along with countries, cities, towns, neighborhoods, and school districts. As

for our case study, we chose to focus in a group of individuals ranging within 21-30

years of age with financial stress who are currently employed or working as a provider

or breadwinners of their families.

GOVERNMENT – Plays a great role on expanding our supplies when it comes to

agricultural needs by imparting the people some facilities to execute activities and

programs that can help us widen and enlarging the economic growth.

G. MEDIUM: PUBLIC COMMUNICATION

RAISING AWARENESS ONLINE

•A text post to communicate the cause and why people should take action.

•An idea for an image or graphic (or image/graphic itself) to communicate the cause

and how others can help support it.

•An idea for a video to raise awareness and encourage action around the cause.

A. ADMINISTRATION AND STRATEGY

Reaching out to people isn't enough. We, as communicators, also want to

influence them. The question is, what effects do digital media have on those who are

exposed to them? Do digital media alter the game by enslaving people to their will? Or

do they introduce previously uninvolved groups of people into politics? Every new

advancement in media technology raises the same question: Is it business as usual, or

are we witnessing a whole new set of effects? We should be aware of previous eras'

communication research findings when examining the effects of digital media on users.

To meet their social, emotional, and economic needs, people frequently seek out and

participate in various levels of group membership. In meeting these needs, we establish

both implicit and explicit fairness norms. Many of these norms are embodied in phrases

like "If you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours." At the heart of such agreements is the

recognition that mutual affiliations are frequently required to achieve individual goals.

However, self-interests can sometimes clash and leave one or both members feeling

harmed by the interaction. Conflict is unavoidable, which is why fairness norms and

rules are developed to guide social interactions and exchanges. And in order to execute

the plan first and bring fairness as well as comfortability to the recipients, we are going

to coordinate with the higher people in town for the upcoming campaign.
B. CONTENT DELIVERY TECHNIQUE

WHAT: A SEMINAR ABOUT INFLATION AND HOW TO OVERCOME IT

WHERE: Capitol Drive, People’s Center

WHEN: JANUARY 29, 2023

HOW: Program Learning Seminar

While individual product price changes are easy to track over time, human needs

extend beyond just one or two products. Individuals require a wide range of products

and services in order to live a comfortable life. Commodities such as food grains,

metals, and fuel, utilities such as electricity and transportation, and services such as

health care, entertainment, and labor are examples. Inflation is defined as a rise in prices

that results in a loss of purchasing power over time. The average price increase of a

basket of selected goods and services over time can reflect the rate at which purchasing

power declines. The increase in prices, which is often expressed as a percentage, means

that a unit of currency buys less than it did previously. Inflation is distinguished from

deflation, which occurs when prices fall while purchasing power rises.

● Those with tangible assets, like property or stocked commodities, may like to see

some inflation as that raises the value of their assets.

● The most commonly used inflation indexes are the Consumer Price Index and

the Wholesale Price Index.

● Inflation is sometimes classified into three types: demand-pull inflation, cost-

push inflation, and built-in inflation.

I. EVALUATION: RIGHT WAY OF INVESTING

An investment in yourself is the best way to be financially prepared for an

uncertain future. One that will increase your future earning potential. This investment

begins with a good education and continues with maintaining current skills and

learning new ones that will be required in the not-too-distant future. Keeping up with a

company's changing needs may allow you to not only inflation-proof your salary, but

also recession-proof your career. Producing rather than purchasing can help you save

more and be more productive in a variety of ways, such as learning the proper methods

of agriculture to enrich our land and bring more supplies to our economy.

METHODOLOGY

Inflation is a lot worse than poverty these days. Imagine being financially

stressed and then the price spikes up real fast in just a blink of an eye. In our modern
day, us people always look for something we should do to save enough money for

ourselves and of course, for our beloved family. But all these savings are not as easy to

do as blinking or closing your eyes, it takes a lot of sweat and blood to earn money and

it took less than one hour to spend all of it by paying just half of the bills at home.

That’s why it is important to know how to overcome inflation rather than

sticking with it, focus on the things you can do to help the economy grow and to

produce more supplies so that the market will not be required to charge you because of

the dying stock they have. And us, the researchers chose to raise awareness to the

people through online by announcing and posting about the risk of it and the people’s

chance to overcome it. Together with the help of the correspondents and the sponsors,

the plan would be more possible.
