Power
All cable connections are made to the I/O module, or “tailgate.”  ECRS offers three connection
options; complete the option below that is applicable to your system.

1. Berg connector – The security of the connection makes this a preferred configuration.
a. Use either of of two identified cables below, which differ only by cable length.
i. Verifone, MX USB Port-Power Cable only (Yellow) (5 meters), Part # 100084

ii. Verifone, MX USB Port-Power Cable only (Yellow) (2 meters), Part # 100085

b. Remove the tailgate.   Press down on the two tabs shown in the illustration below and

c. Remove the Berg Retainer (stamped “THIS SIDE OUT”)

d. Connect the cable:  this cable provides both power and data connection.

e. Replace the Berg Retainer, ensuring that the retainer is fully seated and secure.

f. Replace the tailgate by sliding it into the terminal until it locks into place.  If excessive
force is required to insert the tailgate, inspect the retainer to ensure that it is properly
aligned and secured.

g. Connect the cable to a 12V (green) PUSB port on your Freedom Panel.

2. Powered USB Connection

a. Use the following cable:  Verifone, MX RJ45 12v USB Port-Power Cable (ECRS Part No.

ii. If the following is observed, your MX-915/925 is communicating properly, and is

ready for driver installation:

iii. If neither of the above is observed, continue to the next step for driver installation.

4. Install the appropriate driver for your computer

a. Connect to ECRS Software and Utilities website to download the printer driver
installation software for the Verifone MX-915/925.

b. Download the driver install program for your system

i. VerifoneUnifiedDriverInstaller64 if you’re running a 64-bit Windows OS

i. If the issue persists after checking connections, replace suspect cable(s)

and/or the tailgate to resolve the problem.

ii. If replacement components fail to resolve the problem the MX-915/925 may
need to be serviced by the manufacturer.

ii. Confirm that the VerifoneUnifiedDriverInstaller has been installed successfully.

i. The Verifone will appear on Device Manager as “USB Serial Device” if the
driver has not been installed successfully.

ii. Confirm that the appropriate installer was used (32-bit, 64-bit).

iii. If an inappropriate installer was used, repeat the driver installation steps in
Section 4 above.

6.  Update the MX-915/925 and Load Forms

Important

For Worldpay installations see Worldpay Installation.

1. Launch the CATAPULT® TransactionServer (TS) Touchpad Utility to update the MX-915/925

and load the appropriate forms.
a. Touchpad Utility is an ECRS program that installs into the same folder as TS installs
into.  You may run the program from that folder in Windows File Manager

b. An alternate way to launch the utility is press the Windows-Start key, then type

“Touchpad Utility”.  The Touchpad Utility may be started from the resulting Start screen
by selecting Open from the right-hand window under Touchpad Utility – App

a. Firmware (OS, APP, CTLS): Verifone firmware is loaded separately as OS, APP, and CTLS
files. The indicators for the firmware are color-coded indicating status. The firmware
version currently loaded is displayed for OS, APP, and CTLS.
i. Red: indicates the installed firmware is out-of-date (older than the version
expected by the Touchpad utility).

ii. Green: indicates firmware is current.

Important:
 Beware of downgrading firmware

If a firmware upgrade is identified by CATAPULT (Red indicator), compare

the recommended upgrade to the currently installed version as indicated in
the Touchpad Utility. If the proposed update is a lower-numbered release
than the release on your MX-915/925, do not select the “upgrade” button.
This infrequent scenario could actually downgrade the installed software.

b. Volume: the volume of the device’s audible feedback is user-defined on a 0 (mute) to

100 (maximum volume) scale.

c. Forms: Select Load Forms to load the current forms for your Verifone device.

d. Status: Indicates the connection status and identifies the connected Verifone device.

e. Perform RKI refers to Verifone’s security protocol Remote Key Injection. Do not
select Perform RKI.

Important: Do not reset RKI

RKI updates should be performed only by ECRS support staff. This activity could
put your transaction data at risk.

f. Disconnect disconnects the Verifone device from CATAPULT.

4. Load Payment Device Images

Important

Loading the payment device images is accomplished through Store Records in

CATAPULT Web Office®. Therefore, ensure the Edit Store Record checkpoint is
enabled in your designated Authorization Security profile before continuing.

Details on enabling Advanced Settings are provided in the dedicated OLM section Advanced
Settings. The following Advanced Settings may be set at the Terminal level for the Terminal ID
that will be connected to the VeriFone device; it may however be preferable to enable the
Advanced Settings at the Store Level and allow replication to ensure consistent application at all
terminals.

1. If you are running CATAPULT® Transaction Server (TS) versions prior to 5.5.4.575, be sure to
enable Quick Chip via this Advanced Setting (versions 575+ enable Quick Chip by default).
Due to characteristics of VeriFone firmware, failure to enable Quick Chip on Verifone devices
can lead to the device’s displaying an erroneous transaction Total.
a. Key = com.ecrsoft.tserver.touchpad.quickChipEnabled
Value = true

2. If First Data is your Payment Processor, two Terminal-Level Advanced Settings must be in

place to use the MX-915/925. A general discussion is provided in Advanced Settings for
entering Advanced Settings in CATAPULT Web Office®. Stepwise directions for adding these
Advanced Settings are as follows:
a. Key: firstdata.tppid
Value = REC009

b. Key: transarmor.tid
Value = 00000001
