Abstract

Workplace safety has been considered a major issue in our country. In order to rise the economic
activity rate in Bangladesh, the safety of the workplace is very much required. The awareness of
the safety is highly required in order to sustain a better economic growth. The developing states
have taken necessary measures in order to reduce the workplace hazards. Being a lower-middle
income country, Bangladesh has emphasized industrializations and enacted the labour related
statues for the protection of workers in their workplaces. The main objective of this research is to
enhance the safety of the labour during the working hours in a workplace. So, initially, this research
paper tried to identify the legal framework, real scenarios, and some current problems of this
sector. Secondly, it comes up with some of the most efficient legal reforms, solutions and
recommendations to this problem by showing the basic and mostly necessary things that can be
improved to reduce the injury on working places of labour. In this regard, the existence of short-
run and poor policy, not maintaining standard precautions and safety, insufficient area to left the
place, below standard infrastructures and environment, negligence and misconducts during
accident, unfurnished medical room, problems with temperature, ventilation system, noise and
lighting system in a workplace etc. are most common issues. However, the research shows the
necessity to implement the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006 for the welfare of the workers and the
situation needs monitoring by the government in order to enhance more occupational safety in a
workplace. The government has taken some actions along with international bodies but, the
effectiveness and efficiency of those activities are questioned. There is urgent need for the action
in the work place that enhances a safe work environment so that, the increase of economic activity
rate and the growth of the economy will sustain in the long run.
