Elevator Speech

My name is Ashley Howell, and I am interested in a full time second-grade teaching position. I

graduated cum laude from Sonoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications

and Media Studies in 2016. I continued my education at University of San Francisco and

graduated with a Master of Arts in Teacher Education and my preliminary multiple subject

teacher credential in 2020. I have been teaching for 5 years in the Diocese of San Jose. I spent 3

of my 5 years teaching second grade and then 2 years teaching kindergarten. I am passionate

about Catholic education, especially as a product of Catholic education myself. I believe in the

importance of educating the whole person and providing students with a strong faith foundation.

I love being able to share my faith with my students while fostering a love for learning. I

empower students to become lifelong learners. I challenge my students to be problem solvers and

critical thinkers. I am a strong educator. As a primary school educator, I understand the

importance of the foundational phonics and literacy skills. I create a safe, welcoming classroom

that honors and celebrates student diversity, promotes a growth mindset, and allows students the

opportunity to make mistakes. Being a teacher is my calling and my passion.
