Source 1: Freidrich Nietzsche was a German Philosopher whose work has caught the attention of
many, leaving a profound impact on contemporary philosophy, with his main philosophy being
mainly referred to as existentialism. The video focuses around the idea of existentialism and how
to find yourself following the philosophy of Nietzsche. These steps include: not following the
herd mentality, embracing the difficulty of self discovery, saying yes to what gives you meaning,
and finding your true values. The purpose of the video is to broadly explain the idea that is
existentialism, which is emphasized as the existence of an individual being a free and responsible
character who is able to determine their own development on their own time and will. The video
is specific in the way that it only mentions existentialism and how to get on that track and it
provides other works of Nietzsche that don't specifically pertain to existentialism but to other
areas of his philosophical work. There are no hints of bias or opinionated behavior by the
narrator. This video presentation seemingly gives only factual information and no other point of
view than second, while talking to/about the audience, and third person while referring to
Nietzsche. The narrator along with the philosophy is targeted towards anyone in the general
public but probably more toward individuals who are lost and trying to find themselves.

Source 2: Tony Robbins is an American author, speaker, and philanthropist who is known for
seminars and self-help books, which make him a credible source. He believes that success relies
on several different factors which include finding your desired outcome in life and what actions
you can take to get there. These ideals also add to his author credibility. In the article, the author
believes that the road of finding yourself involves purposefulness and passion. His steps to
finding your purpose include: reflecting on your life/story, determining your values, stopping
your negative self-talk, discovering what your strengths are, and recognizing what doesn’t serve
you or in other words, things that hold you back. This article doesn’t have much depth and has
rather broad statements and elaboration. There is a bit of clarification throughout the article with
links to further explain but nothing that elaborates further than their original ideas. The author
believes and states that personal growth, no matter who, can be achieved. He continues to
acknowledge that this kind of long term growth can’t happen overnight, but with clear ideas of
what you want to develop, it can be done with the right mindset and that’s what he is here to talk
about and help with. The author seems to target anyone looking to grow themselves. I don’t think
there is any specific age group that this is being targeted at but just anyone who’s ideals and
desires also fall in place with the authors.

Source 3: This annotation is by Crash Course, a popularized youtube channel that is run by John
Green. The basis of the video is surrounded around different ideas of philosophy, more toward
the idea of existentialism. The main ideas that are stated are about: essentialism; which is an
approach that assumes other people and things have common characteristics, existentialism;
which is, like once stated, the existence of an individual being a free and responsible character
who is able to determine their own development on their own time and will, and flash
philosophy; which is, like once stated, the existence of an individual being a free and responsible
character who is able to determine their own development on their own time and will, and flash
philosophy; which is less than a philosophical idea and more of a pillar of philosophy that
includes a number of ideals. There is a lot of depth in this video. The narrator goes into deep
detail each step of the way to explain and dig deeper into each philosophical idea. The author,
being also the narrator, has no bias in this video. This video is meant to be strictly informational
and factual so that the audience can learn about these ideas of existentialism, essentialism, etc.
This youtube channel has a recurring audience most of the time, whether it’s students or mainly
anyone trying to learn more about a specific topic. The audience for this video would be anyone
who stumbles upon it or, in my case, searches up a specific topic.

Source 4: The School of life is an educational company whose main ideas center around help on
life issues and how to grow and heal. Both founders, Alain De Botton and Sophie Howarth are
philosophers and authors which add to their credibility. Their organizational mission is to
promote emotional intelligence. In the video, “How to know Yourself”, the video gives advice on
how to find out who you “truly are”. The idea is centered around the idea that we don’t know
what we are truly worth and that we don’t have a secure hold on our personal values or
judgements. It also talks about the impact other people's words and opinions have on your own
self esteem. They use the example “If others decide that we are worthless and bad, there will be
nothing inside us to tell us that these statements are wrong”, also stating that most people will
almost always fall victim to the public opinion. The narrator elaborates on this by saying that we
will also almost always crave the praise and validation of others, most of the time from people
that we wouldn’t even consider friends or acquaintances. Building off of those statements, the
narrator makes a point that no one is born with the ability to automatically know who they are,
which is where learning to have your own identity becomes a goal. It starts with little steps
throughout your life. For example, having your feelings validated after what could be considered
a minor issue. Little things like this build on your self esteem. Even with emotional instability,
the starting point is the same: “Start at the beginning and correct the problem” which would be
identifying how you truly feel. This video leaves nothing out, and has a perfect setup throughout
the whole video. It starts with a hook and introduction while stating the main idea in a way
where it can clearly be identified. The author shows no bias but rather a strong opinion on where
to start when trying to find yourself. He often refers to a majority of people and uses “we”,
including the audience and himself because it acknowledges that we as people have all either
gone or still go through this kind of thinking. The author doesn’t target any specific audience but
the people that seek out the video themselves.

https://www.familyfriendpoems.com/poem/dont-give-up-on-yourself.

Source 5: The author of this poem is Katy Brown. And while this author is not well known, on
this website, she shares a variety of different poems. The one I chose is titled “Don’t Give Up On
Yourself”. The author’s main idea is hidden between different rhetorical devices but can be
summed up as taking time to find out who you are. I came to this conclusion because of a line in
the author's last stanza, “for I know I’m somewhere out there”. The author also repeatedly
mentions that she knows she’s “out there” and she must go on this “adventure”. Since this is a
poem, there isn’t really a lot of expansion, so some of the ideas are built off of the main idea of
finding yourself. This poem has a heavy use of first person, using “I, me, and myself” and again
like most poems, it is centered around the author's own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The
author's use of strong language doesn't signify bias in this context, but strengths the author's
points and opinions. Unlike my other annotations, I believe this author is speaking more from the
heart instead of being for people seeking something like this out. This poem seems to be more
personal and unique to the author's experiences. Even though the author makes it personal, it still
resonates with a bigger audience because these can be things that other people go through. It also
puts feelings into words that are hard to express, in a creative and relatable way.
