DIGITAL FORENSICS AND IT FRAUD INVESTIGATION

Information is one of an organisation’s most valued asset and should be protected

as such. Accidental/planned destruction of data, hardware failure or cyber-
attacks can happen anytime and organisations may be called upon to respond,
investigate, and escalate the analysis to a formal investigation. Computer forensics
is a branch of forensic science pertaining to legal evidence found in computer
and digital storage mediums. It defines as preservation, identification, extraction,
documentation and interpretation of computer media for evidentiary and/or root
cause analysis.

SOCIAL MEDIA FRAUD AND ONLINE IDENTITY THEFT

With the rapid increase in digital fraud, many organisations and individuals are
left unable to cope with preventing and detecting these types of fraud. In this
module, you will learn more about social media frauds, gain exposure to the latest
technologies on fraud, and discuss how cyber criminals are using identity theft,
data manipulation and unauthorised access. The module aims to guide students in
utilising these insights to help in fraud investigations and digital forensics.

MOBILE DEVICE FORENSICS

This course is designed for students who are both new to and already familiar with
computer forensic and especially mobile device forensics. The hands-on course
provides the core knowledge and skills that a digital forensic investigator needs
to process cell phones, PDAs, and other mobile devices. By using mobile forensics
tools, you will learn how to forensically preserve, acquire and examine data
stored on mobile devices and utilise the results for civil/criminal investigations. This
course covers techniques and tools in the context of an overall mobile forensic
methodology, providing you with the ability to obtain and utilise digital evidence
on mobile devices.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

• To understand the basic principles of computer forensics and its procedures;

• To understand the basic principles and techniques of mobile forensics;
• To be able to describe the procedures for preservation, acquisition, examination
and analyse data from mobile phone and mobile devices;

Upon completion of the programme, students will be

eligible to embark onto the MSc in Cyber Security offered
by University of West London (UK), which can be completed
within 10 months.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Aventis Alumni

At least 21 years old with a Degree in Mature Candidates (at least 30 years
any discipline, or; old) with minimum 8 years of working
experience will be considered on a
case-by-case basis.

Language proficiency:
• GCE O Level English C6 and above, or;
• Minimum IETLS 5.5, or;
• For mature students, the language proficiency will be assessed by the school on
a case-by-case basis.

Participants are expected to contribute to the class learning experience in a cohort

and peer learning environment.
