Why does Frankenstein create the creature?

Dr Frankenstein studied science at the university of Ingolstadt in Germany. He discovered the secret of
giving life to inanimate matter, using body parts from corpses, he assembled the creature and gave it life.
However, he was attempting to create a perfectly beautiful being, assembling the best parts from each
corpse he used. We can see that Frankenstein oversteps human limits in his search for the creation of
human life, his action upset the equilibrium of nature, which can only be restored through the death of the
inventor and his creature.

Why does the creature want revenge against Frankenstein?

Social prejudice towards what is different provokes the creature’s anger and thirst for revenge, his horrible
appearance inspired fear and hate in everybody he met, but endowed also with human feelings it also
became lonely and miserable. He took revenge killing Frankenstein’s brother, blaming the innocent Justine
which was executed for this murder. After this, Frankenstein promised to create a female creature , but
destroyed her just before giving her life. In response to this the creature also killed Frankenstein’s friend
Henry Clerval and Frankenstein’s girlfriend Elizabeth.

How is the narrative structured in Frankenstein?

Mary Shelley’s novel has a complex narrative structure: it is technically an epistolary novel, it opens with
the narrating voice of Robert Walton, whose letters to his sister provide a framework for the main
narrative. But there are two others narrators: Frankenstein, telling the story of his life, his experiment and
the monster himself, explaining the reason for his behaviour. The use of multiple narrators highlights the
various relationship between author and reader and allows to present three different points of view
without a single omniscient narrator. The reader follows as Walton listens to Frankenstein’s story, and
walton's sister reads her brothers epistolary account. We are frequently reminded of this mechanism,
reflecting the oral tradition of telling ghost stories, as Frankenstein frequently interrupts his narration to
speak directly to Walton, and Walton closes his letters with a signature and a date.
