THEORITICAL STUDY

A. Definition of Cargo Ship

Cargo ship is are all types of ships that carry goods and cargo from one
port to another. Thousands of cargo carriers ply the world's seas and oceans
each year, handling the bulk of international trade. Cargo ships are usually
specially designed for the task, often being equipped with cranes and other
mechanisms to load and unload, and come in all sizes. Today, they are almost
always built of welded steel, and with some exceptions generally have a life
expectancy of 25 to 30 years before being scrapped.

B. History of Cargo Ship

The world's first container ship, known as the SS Ideal X, was built by
the American company, the Pan-Atlantic Steamship Company. The purpose of
making a container is to be able to transport and transport goods from land by
sea with a large capacity. Wired aja, this ship is equipped with a wide deck that
can accommodate several containers in one voyage.

The first voyage of the SS Ideal X was on 26 April 1956 carrying 58

containers on its upper deck. The ship sailed from Port Newark, New Jersey to
the Port of Houston, Texas in five days. The success of this first container ship
received a positive response from business people because it facilitated the
delivery of goods. The SS Ideal X also marked the era of container

CHAPTER III

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

A. Conclusion
A. Conclusion
1. Marine Freight Forwarding is responsible for damage to goods if the
goods sent are damaged caused by negligence of the carrier will be
responsible for compensation after the proof process is running and
proven guilty then the Carrier will be responsible.
2. The process of proving damaged goods by the owner of the goods
must attach the signature of the Package Receiver and supporting
documents, including: invoice/receipt, proof of receipt and then showing
the damage to the goods sent then the service will check. What needs to
be considered by the sender is the time provision stated in the
agreement because if the time is not in accordance with the time of
prosecution, the replacement cannot be processed. the service party will
prove what caused the damage to the goods if it is proven that the
service party was negligent then the service party will be obliged to take
responsibility.

B. Recommendations

1. The need to improve facilities and infrastructure that support the

implementation of tasks such as rejuvenation, maintenance and increasing
the number of fleets so as to avoid damage, loss of goods sent.

2. For the sender of goods in the process of sending goods, they should
insure the goods sent to avoid loss and it is better to need special
regulations governing the procedure and implementation of compensation
in sea transportation.
