15-Interface Types
The firewall is shipped with physical and virtual interfaces. A physical interface is a port,
for example, Port1, PortA, or eth0. A virtual interface is a logical representation of an
interface that lets you extend your network using existing ports. You can bind multiple IP
addresses to a single physical interface using an alias.
Bridge: A bridge interface allows for the merging of two or more interfaces into a
transparent layer 2 or layer 3 bridge to allow for seamless communication between
interfaces.
VLAN: A VLAN interface allows the administrator to create a virtual LAN interface on
one of the existing XG interfaces, and is used when the XG device is required to
perform inter VLAN routing or tagging.
Alias: An Alias allows the adding of additional IP addresses to an existing interface.
LAG: A LAG is a group of interfaces acting as one single connection which can
provide redundancy and increased speed between two devices. It’s also known as
trunkng, NIC Teaming, NIC Bonding or Ether Channel.
RED: RED interface is used to configure and connect RED hardware devices back to
the XG firewall.
