Pollution is the introduction of contamination into the natural environment that causes adverse change.

Pollution can take the form of any substance or energy. Pollutions, the component of Pollution, can be
either foreign substances/energies or naturally occurring contaminants have an anthropogenic source
that is, a source created by human activities. According to a study of global mortality and pollution levels
published in The Lancet Planetary Health journal. Pollution killed estimated nine million people world
wide.

Major forms of pollution include air pollution, light pollution, litter, noise pollution, plastic pollution, soil
contamination, radioactive contamination, thermal pollution, visual pollution, and water pollution.

Various definitions of pollution exist, which may or may not recognize certain types, such as noise
pollution or greenhouse gases. The United States Environmental Protection Administration defines
pollution as "Any Subtances in water, soil, or air that destroy the natural quality of the environment,
offend the senses of sight, taste, or smell, or cause a health hazard.

The air pollution release of chimeras and particulates into the atmosphere. Common gaseous pollutants
include carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons and nitrogen oxides produced by industry
and motor vehicles. Photochemical ozone and smog are created as nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons
react to sunlight. Particulate matter, or fine dust is characterised by their micrometer size PM10 to
PM2.5.

Electromagnetic pollution is the overabundance of electromagnetic radiation in their non ionising form,
such as radio and television transmission, WIFI etc. Although there is no demonstrable effect on humans
there can be interference with radio astronomy and effects on safety system of aircraft and cars.

The Light pollution includes light trespass, over illumintaion6and astronomic interference.

Littering is the criminal throwing of inappropriate man made objects, unresolved, onto public and
private properties.

Noise pollution in which encompasses roadway noise, aircraft noise, industrial noise as well as high-
intensity sonar

Plastic pollution is the most popular in the accumulation of plastic products and microplastics in the
environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat, or humans.

Soil contamination occurs when chemicals are released by spill or underground leakage. Among the
most significant soil contaminants ate hydrocarbons, heavy metals, MTBE, herbicides, pesticides and
chlorinated hydrocarbons.

Radioactive contamination, resulting from 20th century activities in atomic physics, such as nuclear
power generation and nuclear weapons research, manufacture and deployment.

Thermal pollution, is as temperature change in natural water bodies caused by human influence, such as
use of water as coolant in a power plant.
Visual pollution, which can refer to the presence of overhead power lines, motorway billboards, scarred
landforms, open storage of trash, municipal solid waste or space debris.

Water pollution, caused by the discharge of industrial wastewater from commercial and industrial waste
into surface waters; discharges of untreated sewage and chemical contaminants, such as chlorine, from
treated sewage; and release of waste and contaminants into runoff flowing to surface waters.

Pollutants

A pollutang is a waste product that pollutes the environment, such as the air, water, or soil. A Pollutant's
severity is determined by three factors the chemical type, concentration, extent of damage, and
duration.

Natural causes

One of the most significant natiralof pollution are volcanoes, which during eruptions release large
amount of harmful gases into the atmosphere. Volcanic gases include carbon dioxide, which can be fetal
in large concentrations and contributes to climate change, hydrogen halides which can cause acid rain,
sulfur dioxide, which harmful to animals and damage the ozone layer, and hydrogen sulfide, which are
capable of killing humas at concentrations of less than one part per thousand.

Wildfires, which can be caused naturally by lightning strikes, are also a sognificant source of air
pollution. Wildfire smoke contains significant amount of both carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide,
which can causes suffocation. Large quantities of fine particulates are found within wildfire smoke as
well, which pose a health risk to animals.

Human generation

Motor vehicles emissions are one of the leading causes of air pollution. China, United States, Russia,
India, Mexico, and Japan are the world leaders in air pollution emissions. Principal stationary pollution
sources include chemical plants, coal fired power plants, oil refineries, About 400 million metric tons of
hazardous waste are generated each year. The United States the second largest country in the wolrd
produces about 250 million metric tons. China overtook the United States as the world's biggest
producer of while still far behind based on per capita pollution. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, heavy metals,
MTBE, zinc, arsenic, and benzene ate some of the most frequent soil contaminants. A series of press
reports published in 2001, culminating in the publication of the book Fateful Harvest, revealed a
widespread practice of recycling industrial leftovers into fertilizer, resulting in metal poisoning of the
soil. Ordinary municipal landfills are the source of many chemical subtances entering the soil
environment, emanating from the wide variety of refuse accepted, especially subtances illegally
discarded there, or from pre 1970 landfills that may have been subject to little control in the U.S. or E.U.
There have also been some unusual releases of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins, commonly called dioxins
for simplicity, such as TCDD.

Pollution can also occur as a result of natural disasters. Hurricanes, for example, frequently result on
sewage contamination and petrochemic spills from burst boats or automobiles. When coastal oil rigs or
refineries are involved, larger scale and environmental damage is not unusual. When accidents occur,
some pollution sources, such as nuclear power stations or oil ships, can create extensive and potentially
catastrophic emmissions.

The motor vehicle is the most common cause of noise pollution, accounting for over 90 percent of all
undesirable noise globally.

Greenhouse gas emissions

Carbon dioxide, while vital for photosynthesis, is sometimes referred to as pollution, because raised
levels of the gas in the atmosphere are affecting the Earth's climate. Disruption of the environment can
also highlight the connection between areas of pollution that would normally be classified separately,
such as those of water and air. Recent studies have investigated the potential for long term rising levels
of atmospheric carbon dioxide to cause slight but critical increases in the acidity of ocean waters, and
the possible effects of this on marine ecosystems.

Further, the water is polluted in the name of industrial development, religious practices and more will
cause a shortage of drinking water. Without water, human life is not possible. Moreover, the way waste
is dumped on the land eventually ends up in the soil and turns toxic. If land pollution keeps on
happening at this rate, we won’t have fertile soil to grow our crops on. Therefore, serious measures
must be taken to reduce pollution to the core.

This pollution is damaging our earth severely and we need to realize its effects and prevent this damage.
Pollution affects the quality of life more than one can imagine. It works in mysterious ways, sometimes
which cannot be seen by the naked eye. However, it is very much present in the environment. For
instance, you might not be able to see the natural gases present in the air, but they are still there.
Similarly, the pollutants which are messing up the air and increasing the levels of carbon dioxide is very
dangerous for humans. Increased level of carbon dioxide will lead to global warming. So we must also
encourage everyone to plant more trees which will absorb the harmful gases and make the air cleaner.
When talking on a bigger level, the government must limit the usage of fertilizers to maintain the soil’s
fertility. In addition, industries must be banned from dumping their waste into oceans and rivers,
causing water pollution.

To sum it up, all types of pollution is hazardous and comes with grave consequences. Everyone must
take a step towards change ranging from individuals to the industries. As tackling this problem calls for a
joint effort, so we must join hands now. Moreover, the innocent lives of animals are being lost because
of such human activities. So, all of us must take a stand and become a voice for the unheard in order to
make this earth pollution-free. Above all, if we wish to survive and continue our life on earth then we
have to take measures. These measures will help is securing our as well as our next generation future.
