Preface
Congratulations on choosing a BT truck! It is designed to make
your work more efficient, simple and safe. Before you start using
the truck, it is very important that you learn how to handle the
truck in a safe way, by carefully reading and understanding the
content in this manual. To use the truck, you must have received
appropriate training and fulfil local requirements on operating
fork lift trucks.

The manual contains information about security rules, how to

work with the truck and how to keep the truck in good condition
using a daily maintenance schedule. For recurrent maintenance,
our quality oriented service organisation is at your disposal, in
order to secure a high availability for a long time to come.

This booklet describes the truck model(s) that are specified on

the cover and in the standard design. For modified or custom
made trucks, the booklet has been supplemented with specific
information in the appendix. Make sure you study also this infor-
mation.

To make the content available, the book must always accom-

pany the truck. Copies of the book can be ordered as a spare
part.

BT are constantly developing our products. We therefore

reserve the right to make changes, and that no claims can be
made due to the content of the manual. If anything is unclear or
if you have any other questions, you are always welcome to con-
tact your local supplier.

Introduction

Introduction
Presentation of the truck
The truck is a battery powered support arm truck equipped with
a tiller arm for walking operation.
Model designation, manufacturing number, capacity, weight and
battery specification are written on the type plate. Only truck bat-
teries, so called traction batteries, may be used.

Warranty
With every factory-delivered truck, a product warranty is
included according to a separate specification. The warranty is
valid under the assumption that maintenance and service is per-
formed according to the recommendations from BT, and is per-
formed by BT authorized personnel, and by using spare parts
recommended by BT.

Intended use
The truck is designed to be used for handling goods in a weather
protected environment. For use in cold store, the truck should be
specially adapted for this. Ancillary user information is specified
in a separate chapter.
To use the truck, you must have received appropriate training for
this type of truck. It might also be demanded that you have the
permission to drive the truck within the area.

Unauthorized use
The truck may never be used in the following situations, unless it
is specially adapted for them:
- Environments containing dust or gases that may cause a
fire or explosion. (If the truck is adapted for this, you will
find the specific user information in corresponding appen-
dix.)
- Corrosive environments.
- As a tow-truck for trailers or other trucks.
- Transport or lift of passenger.
- Driving on an uneven floor or a floor with insufficient carry-
ing capacity. See the truck type plate and technical data in
the end of this manual for weights and wheel pressure
- If the truck has damages or errors that affect the safety or
safe use. Neither if the truck has been repaired, modified
or adjusted without approval from BT.

Introduction

Safety precautions
The manual contain warnings and instructions for avoiding nar-
row escape or accidents. Make sure to follow these precautions.
The following three warning levels and symbols are used in the
manual:

DANGER!
DANGER! implies risk for accident that may result in death or
serious injury, and extensive material damage.

WARNING!
WARNING! implies risk for accident that may result in serious
personal injury, and extensive material damage.

NOTE:
NOTE: implies risk for material damage if the instructions are
not followed.

SMOKING PROHIBITED
If smoking occur in situations where smoking is prohibited, a
serious accident may occur.

NAKED FLAMES PROHIBITED

If naked flames are used in situations where naked flames are
prohibited, a serious accident can occur.

PROTECTIVE GLASSES
When the directive for protective glasses is given, protective
glasses must always be worn to avoid personal injury.

It is also your responsibility to be aware of this and follow local

safety regulations. If the instructions in this manual in any way
should differ from these regulations, the local regulations should
be followed.

Safe use

Safe use
• Make sure that safety equipment, protections and safety
switches works before you use the truck. Safety equipment
may not be turned off or removed.
• Make sure that the information plates on the truck are reada-
ble. Learn the meaning of information and type plates, see
chapter Warning and information plates.
• Perform daily checks as described in the tables of chapter
Working with the truck. Also, make sure that maintenance is
performed according to the instructions given under Periodic
maintenance in chapter Maintenance.

Operator’s responsibility
• Before you start using the truck, you must have passed an
education for the type of truck. Your local BT representative
can offer suitable courses. Also make sure that you have a
local permit to drive the truck.
• Follow local safety regulations and instructions for safety
equipment.
• Always use protective shoes when working with the truck.
• All accidents that have caused personal injury or material
damage must be reported to the management. The truck
functions must also be checked (see check list in chapter
Working with the truck) before it is used again. The truck may
not be used if it has any damages that affect the safety or
safe use. All the repair must be performed by suitably trained
staff

Driving and conduct while driving

• Never drive the truck with oily hands or oily shoes. Also,
never keep loose objects or wear jewellery when you work
with the truck.
• Never let a passenger ride on the truck.
• The truck must be driven with care, good judgement and in a
responsible way. Avoid sudden starts and braking, and turn-
ing with high speed.
• Drive the truck at reduced speed on an incline. Drive straight
up or down the incline. It is not permitted to turn the truck on
the incline. Drive an unloaded truck with the forks pointing
down the incline, while a loaded truck must be driven with the
forks pointing up the incline.
• Reduce the speed if the visibility is obscured. Also reduce the
speed if the floor is slippery to avoid the truck to skid or tilt.

Safe use

• Be attentive about other personnel and other trucks, as well

as protruding parts from bars, shelves and walls. Be ready to
stop!
• Always drive at safe distance from the edge on loading docks
and loading ramps. Be attentive about marked risk areas.
• Give off a sound signal when overtaking and to warn other
personnel.
• Always give way to a loaded truck at junctions and in confined
aisles.
• Before the truck is driven on to a loading ramp ensure that the
ramp is correctly secured and has the necessary load bearing
capacity. Drive slowly and carefully across the ramp.

• Before you drive the truck on board another vehicle, you must
make sure that the other vehicle is steady and its brakes are
safely applied.
• Before you drive into an elevator you must first ensure that
the elevator is approved for the total weight (of the truck, the
load and the weight of the operator). Drive in with the load
first. Do not allow other people to be inside the elevator.

• Drive with the load behind, if it obscures the visibility, or let

someone direct you.

Handling loads
• Only handle load that is within the allowed lift capacity of the
truck, according to the type plate on the truck, see chapter
Warning and information plates. The length/width of the forks
must have been adapted to the form and dimensions of the
load.
• Only handle loads that are stable and arranged in a safe
manner.
• Handle long and high loads with special care. A load support
increases the stability of the load, when handling high loads.
The load support is an option.

Parking the truck

• Use indicated parking space if such exist.
• Never park the truck on:
- Inclined floors.
- So that it hinders traffic and work or blocks emergency
exits.
