1.Safety precautions

Only the certified technician is authorized to perform the installation and


commission of the communication system.

Once the parameters of telephone controller have been set, generally


modification is forbidden except by the certified person when necessary. Random
change can result to the failure of video controlling function;

Abide by the relevant safety electricity regulation; power off before installation,
maintenance and lockout;

Avoid any damages upon the electric components by ESD; make sure that the
human-body static has been discharged; it’s recommended to wear grounding wrist
protector during operation;

The whole system shall be grounded reliably.

2. Technical Description and Running


2.1 Application
Non-switch board explosion-proof interphone is special designed for communication
in petroleum and chemical explosive dangerous atmosphere (ⅡB group T5
temperature class), and is used to coordinate drilling work, achieving communication in
explosive atmosphere. This system adopts non-switch board mode without fixed station,
which means all stations in this system can receive signal, not point-to-point
communication. The system is made up of several telephones connected in parallel
with special cable, so as to form into an amplifying& intercommunication system,
configured with power amplifier therein. The system power can be connected into the
telephone directly from a certain point on well site. Once one telephone station is on,
the whole system can be put into normal use.

The whole communication system consists of 14 stations: VFD1 house, VFD2 house, driller’s cabin,
monkey board, drill floor, mud pump area, and shale shaker tank, office (five), logging unit, as well as TD
house.

Two-way communication stations with handset are built up in 9 stations including VFD house,
pump area, shale shaker, suction tank, substructure, cementing device, two offices, and driller’s cabin;
Meanwhile, driller’s cabin, monkey board and rig floor make up the paging system, implementing the
page from driller’s cabin to rig floor and two-way call between driller’s cabin and monkey board through
microphone.

2.3.1 System Stations Configuration and Running


2.3.1.1 VFD house station
The system power (AC110V) is from UPS in VFD house; this station is composed of one indoor
wall telephone, one junction box and one indoor speaker. With handset picked up, it can fulfill
page of the whole site and the counterpart can communicate with the station at any other point.

Through outlet cabinet, VFD house station, pump area, office station (5), logging station, driller’s
cabin, TD house station, and shale shaker station can achieve mutual (two-way) communication
with handset. In addition, driller’s cabin together with monkey board and drill floor station forms into

paging system, including DCR single-way page and double-way page between DCR and monkey
board through microphone.
2.3.1 Individual station configuration and running
2.3.1. VFD house station
VFD1 station is made up of one indoor wall-type telephone, one junction box and one indoor sound
box; VFD2 station is made up of one wall-type telephone and one indoor sound box, and once with
handset picked up, the person can page to the whole site and the counterpart can communicate with him
at any station once picking up the telephone.

Through outlet cabinet, the VFD1 station is connected to pump area station, DCR, shale shaker,
VFD2 and office station.

(1) Components description


Handset: receiver and transmitter
Page button: it is used for paging the whole well-site. Pick up the handset and press this button, and
speak to transmitter, all stations can receive the message.
Attention: after paging, release the button and wait till communication is established; with the
communication established, don’t press the button anymore; or else, the counterparty
station cannot receive signal.
Heat button: it is used in low temperature environment to keep the temperature inside telephone
box for ensuring normal operation of inner components. If the rig is not used in low
temperature environment, the telephone will not be configured with heater.
Heat indicator: when telephone is being heated, the indicator will light in red.
Method for wire incoming and outgoing: three gland holes in all on telephone enclosure, for power input,
indoor speaker signal output, and main cable. The cables enter the enclosure and then get connected
with function terminals directly.
(2) Junction box
Junction box in VFD house is mainly used for connecting VFD house to other stations.

a) Components description

Cables from stations converge at the terminal block in junction box, which with same function are

connected together; and Ex. gland acts as external interface to protect cable for explosion-proof and

sealing.

b) Installation position

Install junction box on the inner side of VFD house plug board. Through VFD PB, the other stations

are connected with junction box.


2.3.1.2 Driller’s cabin Station
The driller’s cabin station from which comes the power of the whole system is core of the whole
telephone system, including one Ex. commutator, one Ex. indoor speaker, one microphone, one
paging button, and two three-position selector switches. The Ex. commutator is used for driller
paging drill floor through gooseneck microphone, and floorman responses by handset.

1) Ex. commutator
PCB mounted in Ex. commutator is used for receiving and responding driller’s control signal, and
choosing monkey board, drill floor or broadcast as communicating object.

Note: Before opening control box, make sure that system powers off.
Connection description:
After entering commutator, cables separately connect with Ex. alarm, Ex. telephone, Ex. indoor
speaker, control components on console, driller’s cabin outlet board, monkey board connector and rig
floor connector.
2) Ex. Telephone

There is paging button on the handset, with the same function as that on TP box. When needed to page,
press the button, and then release it to wait for answers.

3) EX. acousto-optic alarm is used to send alarming signal to individual station on the well-site.

Once there is accident, the driller can sent alarming signal to the whole site through alarming switch.
EX. acousto-optic alarm is connected to VFD station, alarming switch on the driller’s chair and EX.
commutator through receptacle and plugs. The cables have been connected to individual function
terminals on PCB.

2.3.1.3 Monkey board station


This station is used to keep the worker there in touch with driller.

It consists of one water-proof speaker, one water-proof microphone, and one water-proof and one
water-tight telephone.
Whatever communication method or channel, workers on monkey board can speak to driller
directly via Ex. microphone, and driller can speak to them through EX. speaker.

Note: there is a button at the bottom of waterproof microphone, if not needed, turn it to “off”
position to keep driller’s cabin from interference of noise or echo.
2.3.1.4 Rig floor station
Through this station, driller’s page can be broadcasted to rig floor

It consists of one speaker (25W) and one Ex. telephone configured with rainproof enclosure above.
2.3.1.5 MP area station

The station consists of one low-temperature-resistant telephone and one water-proof speaker.
Note: when used outdoor, Ex. telephone must be installed inside waterproof and dustproof box
(FCX-6).
2.3.1.6 Shale shaker

The station includes one EX. Telephone and one EX. Speaker.

2.3.1.7 TD house, logging and office station

These stations include one wall-type telephone and one indoor sound box.

3. Installation and Inspection


3.1 installation
As per drawing and well-site condition, select the best position to install telephone and speaker.
Abide by the following regulations:
‹ Ensure optimized sound transmission in both decibel and range.
‹ No big obstruction in front.
‹ The telephone position is accessible for operators.
‹ No interference from other devices.
‹ No interference on other devices.
‹ Ensure weatherproof and dustproof when installing telephone on monkey board and drill floor.
‹ Fix all components firmly, tightening spring washer and flat washer.
‹ The station component is accessible easily for maintenance.
3.2 PCB connection
All EX. indoor control boxes and telephones are connected with PCB via Ex. gland.

Note: all repairs should be performed by electricians with power off.

(1) Cable

Main cable type: 2*1.0+7*0.5,which contains two AC220V power supply wires and seven signal wires.

The cable features double-shield layers, the inner layer for shielding the interference upon other signal

wires from the two AC220V power supply wires, while the outer layer for avoiding outside interference.

(2) Plug & receptacle

Apply Ex. plug & receptacle in Ex. area, and the plugs should be crimped.

Firstly, disconnect the Ex. plug & socket, and put the parts on the cable.

Note: before connection, all components of plug must be put on the cable, and ensure the sequence

and direction correct.

Secondly, strip the cable, and crimp the wires on relevant pins as per electrical circuit diagram.

Note: after crimping, once more assure connection correct and firm.

Finally fasten the plug.

3.3 Cable Route


Note: this system is very sensitive to the interference from power supply, so wire it away from large
power cables of VF motor. If close or bad shielded, there will be noise “Cici” when the speaker is being
used. During plug removal, ensure method and direction correct, avoiding thread slipping and contact
damaged. Don’t only hold plug to drag cable.
Both the stations of monkey board and rig floor are controlled in output by the commutator of driller’s
cabin while other stations are connected in parallel.

3.3.1 Route of monkey board station


Cables from outlet board in driller’s cabin, through derrick, and transferred by movable plug &
receptacle, are connected with Ex. speaker on monkey board.

3.3.3 Route of other stations
Cables connected with other stations (mud pump station, shale shaker station) are from VFD outlet
board, and then directly connects to the movable plug & receptacle near telephone.

Note:

z After all components in place, reinstall the stations, and fasten the shale shaker station.

z Inspect the contact of plug for water.

z Reconnect the cables; insert one end to VFD outlet board, another to driller’s cabin according to

cable mark.

4. System electrification
4.1 Electrical Inspection
Tool: a multimeter
1) Check system power supply for short circuit with multimeter. And check whether the
cable connection accords with the drawing. Connect the plug & receptacle according to
nameplate.

2) Check communication and signal cable for connection and the internal resistance of speaker
coil as 16 ohm.
3) Check terminal block connection for looseness.
4) Ensure plug & receptacle firm and complete contact of pin and hole.
5) All cable shielding layers have been grounded.
6) Ensure all stations grounded reliably with same voltage to ground; resistance should be less
than 4 ohm.
7) System cables should be laid separately, try to keep them away from power cables.

4.2 System Electrification


After installation and electrical inspection, electrify the telephone system.
First, open the PLC cabinet inside DCR and keep pressing the power switch till UPS starts to work.
Then engage on breaker QF5 to power on the telephone system and the whole system gets to working
status thereafter.
Note: for the initial power on, after UPS startup, use multi-meter to test whether the incoming
voltage of telephone system breaker is AC220V. Without voltage or with voltage offset too large, please
check the connection form UPS outgoing terminal to breaker is correct or not. With everything normal,
close breaker QF5.

5. Equipment Principle and Function

5.1 system equipment configuration and running


The whole paging system is configured with the low-temperature resistant non-switchboard telephone
as center. With Ex. commutator, and acousto-optic alarm configured, driller can page to rig floor or
monkey board by selector switch beside driller’s chair, and alarm to the whole site by operating alarm
manually.

1) Mike signal line: including receiver signal line and transmitter signal line.
2) Handset: including those of receiver and transmitter.
3) Temperature controlling switch: to control the temperature; when the temperature gets up to a certain limit,
the heater will automatically stop heating.
4) Heater indicator: for indicating the heating status. The light is in red.
5) Page button: for paging to the whole well site; pick up the handset and then press the red page button to
speak to transmitter, so that individual non-switchboard station can receive the voice signal.
6) Heater button: with the button pressed down, the inside part of telephone can be heated.
7) Heating indicator: when the telephone is at heating status, the light is in red.

The telephone can achieve bilateral communication, and drive local 25W EX. horn.
Inside there is applied PCB FFD7.820.211 (as the figure 21), and the PCB for individual station can be
exchanged. PCB is in the aluminum alloy box and the telephone in EX. area is explosion proof.

Figure 23 is for the connective terminal of telephone PCB. Terminal 19 and 20 are for connecting to
220VAC power supplies which are both in parallel. Well site communication power supply is from DCR;
terminal 9 and 10 is for communication channel; all the communication channels are connected together
for transmitting voice signal during bilateral communication by receiver. The voice signal input by
transmitter, then amplified and adjusted by PCB, is finally output from receiver. 11 and 12 are paging
signal channels; all the paging signal channel are connected together to transmit voice signal when all
paged. Press the page button on the earphone and the signal is output to terminal 11 and 12 of each
telephone via channels. After entering another telephone paging channel, the signal is amplified by
power amplifier LM3886 and then finally output by 25w speaker.

Ex. commutator BZQ-1 is for receiving power supply 2200VAC from VFD house and the signal of
communication and paging channel; this commutator is connected with console control selector,
and then driller can achieve switchover from communication to rig floor, monkey board and even
the whole site, and establish two-way communication with other non-switchboard station by using
gooseneck microphone or handset. The No. of PCB is FFD7.820.210 (figure21).
Voice signal of VFD house is connected to talk terminal9, 10, and page terminal11, 12, for driller to
talk with other stations. Terminal6 outputs driller’s cabin signal to monkey board by connecting with
input terminal 7 of monkey board (rig floor), and via PCB to 25W speaker. Terminal 13,14,15,16 are
used to connect with external selector switches, and the selector switches of monkey board and rig
floor have two normally-open contacts for receiving driller’s cabin signal, and RW3 is to adjust
side-tone. Switch signal is input into PCB to activate the relay and fulfill switchover between
monkey-board and drill floor. Ex.mic.IMK-1 is connected to terminal.
The function of potentiometer on BZQ-1 commutator PCB:

1) RW1 is used to adjust output during speaking with microphone ( to monkey board or rig floor,

terminal6,7)

2) RW2 is used to adjust output during speaking with handset ( to monkey board or rig floor,

terminal6,7)

3) RW3 is used to adjust sidetone in handsfree status, if noise sounds from indoor speaker,

eliminate by adjusting potentiometer.

4) RW4 is used to adjust indoor speaker when receiving signal

5) RW5 is used to adjust indoor speaker in handsfree status.


6) RW6 is used to adjust indoor speaker when receiving signal from monkey board or drill floor.

The alarm controlled by driller is in fact an alarming-signal generating device. The driller can turn the
selective switch to right and send alarming signal to the whole site through speakers, informing the
well-site workers of something abnormal. And after operating the alarming switch, he can leave at once
The PCB number is FFD7.820.117 (figure 22).
Connect the alarming contact at left arm of driller’s chair onto terminal A and B on PCB, and input
alarming activating signal to activate the relay above, so that the PCB core IC3 (TDA2003)and
IC4(CK9561)get electrified. At this time, IC4 sends the solidified voice signal into the IC3 inlet where the
signal gets amplified by LM3886 before transmitting to paging channel and finally to the 25W speaker at
individual station for realizing the whole-site alarming.
There are three kinds of solidified alarming signal in IC4. In order to distinguish from other alarming
sound of the well site, operate the voice switch K on PCB for switchover.
5.2 Function Description

The system control center is arranged in driller’s cabin, whose control components consist of two
selector switches, as figure 23 shows. As for mode selecting, there are three choices, goose-neck
microphone paging, telephone paging and manual alarm. At manual alarm mode, once something
abnormal happens, driller alarms to the whole well-site and then escapes quickly. After troubleshoot,
reset the alarm switch.
Channel selector switch has three channels: monkey board, rig floor and non-switchboard
communication.
Note: if channel selector switch or mode selector switch disabled, or page fails, power off
the system and retest after resetting.
5.2.1 Telephone Page Mode

5.2.2 Gooseneck microphone
When mode selector switch in “Microphone” position, operator holds the switch to speak, till finish
speak, release and return to telephone mode.

In this channel, driller’s cabin can only communicate with monkey board; with the mode switch at
goose-neck microphone position, speak to the “Microphone” and the voice signal will be sent to monkey
board speaker for output, then release the knob for receiving voice signal.

6. Troubleshooting

5. If fault happens during usage, check external line and power supply, offhook switch and page switch,
and every component in sequence.
6. All parts are energized during working, and signal and power line are grounding, therefore, signal
shielding line should be grounded into ensure voice quality.
7. The potentiometers on PCB have been well set before leaving factory; therefore, nonprofessional
person is not allowed to adjust it at will.
8. After maintenance finished, apply a layer of 204-1 anti-corrosive oil or Vaseline oil at Ex. joint to
ensure Ex. performance.

7. Storage and Quality Inspection


7.1 Storage

z Keep hydraulic tong station storage temperature within the range of -62 ℃~50℃

z Storage environment should be dry, ventilated and without corrosive gas.

z Cover the socket of outlet cabinet, wrap up the joint of air line and oil line. Seal and stuff the leak.

z Cover the speaker mouth before storage, for preventing from water.

z Power off before storage

7.2 Quality Inspection

After long-term storage, necessary inspection should be carried out before electrification.

z Inspect the plug of outlet cabinet for damage, and cable insulation layer for crack or damage.

z Re-plug and inspect the plug for existing water.


z Inspect weld joint on PCB for fall-out and for existing water inside the box.
z When used under at -45 Celsius degree, press all the heater button to heat the telephone for a while
at firs.
8. Dismounting and transporting
8.1 dismounting
1) Switch all the consumers off the power before dismounting.
2) Disconnect all the cable plugs and ensure of clear mark and proper protection.
Note: make sure of proper method and correct direction during plug disconnection, avoiding
thread loose or the inner contactors damaged. It’s prohibited to dray the cable by holding
the plug, or else there will be damages upon the contactors or the connection interface.
Wrap each plug to keep free of water or foreign material. Before transportation, close the
cover of all plugs for the sake of watertight.
3) As for those loose parts, fix or remove them and then lock the doors.

4) As for the station next to the pump area, unscrew to make it lie down, then fasten to the
installing position and wrap with proof fabric to keep the water from flowing into the speaker
horn. Transport it together with tank and house as a whole.
8.2 transportation
Prior to transportation, make sure that all the cabinets are well locked and the dismounted parts
have been packed in box to get free of accidental damages due to serious shock during trip.
