5 things necessary for group cohesion

Teamwork makes the dream work, this is a famous quote used to

raise the belief and strength of a group and depicts communication,
leadership, and common goal amongst members of a team/group.
These are all characteristics necessary for group cohesion in social
groups.

The term cohesion is used in reference to when members of a

group/social group bond with one another to create a group as a
whole. There are seven characteristics necessary for group cohesion,
however, in this article, only 5 will be expounded on. These are
communication, leadership, common goal, authority, and compromise.
There is a relatively hierarchical structure that defines the leadership
and authority of social groups. Leadership and authority are necessary
for group cohesion because they outline who will be responsible for
ensuring that the group’s goals are achieved. The leader is the
individual who is responsible for coordinating the social group’s
activities thus the leader must be able to help maintain group
cohesion. In order for a number of people to be considered a social
group members must communicate/ interact with each other.
Communication is necessary for social group cohesion because it
ensures that all ideas are discussed and conveyed to all members of
the group. The discussion among group members may lead to
compromisation which is another characteristic necessary for group
cohesion. Compromisation, as it relates to social group cohesion, is
when members may subdue each other's decision to reach an
agreement that is acceptable to all parties and the final characteristic
necessary for group cohesion is a common goal. A common goal is
necessary for group cohesion because people are often drawn to a
group when they see that it will help them achieve a goal that is
important to them thus it will influence them to remain committed to
the group.
It is important for a social group to possess these characteristics
necessary for group cohesion because cohesion allows the group
members to work together in order to achieve goals that were set out
to be accomplished.
