In the meeting that took place today at the offices of the Municipality of
Via Petroselli in Rome, Save the Children delivered to the new
Councillor for Public Works and the Suburbs Paolo Masini 3,122
signatures collected with the online petition launched last June on the
change.org platform as part of the Childhood Alarm campaign, to ask
for urgent intervention by the Municipality for the Carlo Pisacane
Elementary School of Torpignattara in Rome.
In the meeting, which took place in the presence of the President of the
"Associazione Genitori Carlo Pisacane 0-11", Save the Children underlined
how the structure has long been in unsustainable degradation conditions:

For his part, Councillor Masini announced that the first tranche of 300

The thousands of citizens who signed the petition in fact, they asked that the
start of work be guaranteed in a short time to restore the full usability of the
Carlo Pisacane School, considering the precarious state of security in which
the building finds itself, also underlining that the maintenance and cleaning
of the schools is a public duty and parents should not take charge of it, as
happened in this case thanks to the good will of the families of the students
who attend the school.
The appeal was also extended to all public schools in the capital, so that
investments are guaranteed for the educational offer and the adaptation of
school facilities to conditions of aesthetic decorum and safety. "We welcome
this positive response from the Administration, a first non-decisive
intervention, which will have to be followed by broader action, and which, as
Save the Children, we are committed to monitoring. The Pisacane school
represents the symbol of a worrying scenario that involves the whole of
our country, in which there is no longer investment in education and
training. Our school system is not in step with other European countries both
in terms of adapting school structures and offering training," said Matteo
Rebesani, Director of Institutional Relations of Save the Children Italy.
"The poverty of spaces and services is one of the main themes of the
Childhood Alarm campaign and Save the Children launched last June to
denounce the continuous and silent theft of the future of children in Italy,
mobilizing citizens and institutions, as in the case of the petition presented
today to the Capitoline Administration for a school that nevertheless manages
to stand out for an integrated intercultural context and a cutting-edge
educational offer compared to other schools in Rome." The precarious
situation of school structures affects the whole country.
In fact, most Italian children attend school in buildings (15% of those
surveyed) built before 1945, of which 1,000 date back to the nineteenth
century. According to data provided by the MIUR on the register of school
buildings, only 30% of buildings are under 30 years old, just 8% have been
designed according to anti-seismic regulations despite 50% arising in high-
risk areas, and 1 out of 2 does not have an external safety scale.

As the world prepares to mark the one-year anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion of
Ukraine, I am in Kyiv today to meet with President Zelenskyy and reaffirm our
unwavering and unflagging commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and
territorial integrity.

When Putin launched his invasion nearly one year ago, he thought Ukraine was weak
and the West was divided. He thought he could outlast us. But he was dead wrong.

Today, in Kyiv, I am meeting with President Zelenskyy and his team for an extended
discussion on our support for Ukraine. I will announce another delivery of critical
equipment, including artillery ammunition, anti-armor systems, and air surveillance
radars to help protect the Ukrainian people from aerial bombardments. And I will share
that later this week, we will announce additional sanctions against elites and companies
that are trying to evade or backfill Russia’s war machine. Over the last year, the United
States has built a coalition of nations from the Atlantic to the Pacific to help defend
Ukraine with unprecedented military, economic, and humanitarian support – and that
support will endure.

I also look forward to traveling on to Poland to meet President Duda and the leaders of
our Eastern Flank Allies, as well as deliver remarks on how the United States will
continue to rally the world to support the people of Ukraine and the core values of
human rights and dignity in the UN Charter that unite us worldwide.

Statements of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation

The Russian Ministry of Defense during a briefing

announced the liberation of the village of Gryanikovka in
the Kharkov region. The department also stated that during
the day units and places of accumulation of equipment of
the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kupyansky, Limansky,
South-Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson directions were
hit. In total, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost about 250
servicemen and a large amount of equipment. In the
Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), an ammunition depot of
Ukrainian troops was destroyed.

Offensive operations continued in the Donetsk direction,

during which up to 150 Ukrainian servicemen, 5 armored
combat vehicles, 3 vehicles, a Grad MLRS combat vehicle
and a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer were eliminated. 3
warehouses of ammunition and rocket and artillery
weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed.

Army aviation, missile forces and artillery hit 85 enemy

artillery units, manpower and military equipment in 112
districts.

Air defense systems shot down 3 HIMARS MLRS shells and

destroyed 11 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles in the
Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), Kharkiv and Kherson
regions.
Zaporozhye region

Kiev is pulling reserves into the controlled part of the

Zaporozhye region, said Vladimir Rogov , a member of the
main council of the regional administration . According to
the official, about 150 servicemen of the Armed Forces of
Ukraine and up to 15 units of heavy military equipment are
destroyed daily in this direction.

Balitsky said that among the participants in Sudoplatov’s
volunteer battalion there are natives of Serbia, Turkey and
the Scandinavian countries. The official noted that they had
not yet been sent to the front line.
Kherson region

 Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba met with Armin
Papperger, CEO of the German engineering concern
Rheinmetall AG. The parties discussed projects to increase
production for Kyiv, as well as “Ukraine’s capabilities in
terms of tanks and armored vehicles.”

Kuleba also said that he met with colleagues from the G7

countries, discussing with them the “quick delivery” of
weapons needed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in
2023. According to him, the G7 countries are preparing to

summer – at the summit of the alliance in Vilnius. He added

A military facility was hit in Khmelnitsky in western

Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the local regional
administration Sergei Gamaly . According to him, a total of

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that London

provided $2.3 billion worth of military support to Ukraine
