The lessons in the 5th and 6th grade a very similar, even with similar topics.
Lesson was constructed in such way: At first, the teacher checked the attendance,
asked “who is on duty today?” and began to check the homework. She put some
marks and also bad marks and remarks for parents in the diary if the child is not
ready with the homework. Then she explained the new topic, asked if there any
questions and gave some exercises from the students book. When the lesson was
over she told them that she will check it at the next lesson and gave them some
homework.

Todays lesson started with the dictation. It was in such form: she asked one student
to come to the blackboard and to write the words there. There were about 3 or 4
students who received the marks. Then she delivered the copybooks and started a
new topic, after checking homework. I have noticed that children’s level of
knowledge is ok, maybe average, but not pretty good, when I was at the language
school the lessons, the learning plan, studying conditions, learning environment
and even textbooks were much more better than at this ordinary school.

Today we had to check the tests. That was awful! Some handwritings were
such in mess, some were really dirty and I swear I have seen a set of letters instead
of the answers! Just different letters in a row! Some students just didn’t write
anything and left the place for answers empty, someone just have rewrote the
questions. The lewel of knowledge is really low. I think that’s because they have
too small amount of lessons per week and they also use Ukrainian textbooks, in my
opinion it is beter to learn English with usage of authentic material like textbooks
from Oxford, Cambridge or Pearson partnership.

First online lesson. 45 minutes is quite not enough. They are late all the time and
don’t want to put on their cameras. Also they miss the lessons and say that they
don’t have a computer, electricity or internet at home. It also was hard to control if
they er writing something or not so the discipline was almost ruined. The teacher
should have used some web-sites with interactive tasks and tests but she didn’t do
that so the lesson took 3 from my 5 grade scale. Organization could be better.

These lessons also were organized in the same way as the previous. Homework,
new words, exercises so boring both for us and for kids. We had to check 2 packs
of copybooks. It also was 3 groups together so there were nowhere to sit for us.
Teacher’s work is not so easy but we were trying to do our best. Handwriting is not
ok for our eyes, sometimes you need to use glasses, sometimes a decoder to
understand exactly what they wanted to write and explain their opinion. Also they
are having English lessons in physics and history classrooms so they don’t have a
possibility to use extra materials, posters on the walls and even English
dictionaries. Its about bad curriculum plan.

I have seen some lessons in the 11-b. Students wanted us to help them with the
test, then they tried to become our friends and asked for good marks. The groups
are smaller and older students are more organized. Bu she is not preparing them for
ZNO exam. Not even a hint! Just Ukrainian textbook. I think that’s not right
because it is very important to prepare students for the exam. They use some
medias and interaction in their project works and that’s great. They are also really
motivated, even more than 5th grades. But I understand them uoy cant get a good
job or trewell without English.
