NATURE OF ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR

Organizational Behaviour , as a field of activity, has the following characteristics:

1. IT FOCUSES ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF INDIVIDUALS:

Organizational behavior studies the reason why people in the workplace behave in a
particular manner .the idea is to influence them positively so that they do their best towards the
attainment of the organizational goal.

2. IT IS INTER-DISCIPLINARY:

Organizational behavior is not a subject by itself . it takes relevant things from such
behavior science subjects as psychology , sociology , and anthropology . it is , therefore , inter-
disciplinary in nature .

3 . IT IS AN APPLIED SCIENCE:

Pure science focuses on fundamental research . organizational behavior ,as an applied

science ,makes use of research finding to solve organizational problems relating to human
behavioural aspect

4. IT IS AN ART AS WELL:

Mere application of the behavioural science theories or the research finding may not , by
itself , solve behavioural problems in workplace. What is equally important is ‘skill’ without
which it is not possible to understand and influence human behavior

5. IT ADOPTS A HUMANISTIC APPROCH:

OB recongnises the fact that the success of any organization depends primarily on the
quality if its human resource, i.e.., the commitment and involvement with which the individual
discharge their duties. It therefore adopts a humanistic approach in knowing and fulfilling the
needs of the individual so that they can be positively influence.

6.ITS UNLIMITE AIM IS TO ATTAIN THE ORGANISATIONAL OBJECTIVE:

The objective of an organization is to make profit by maximizing production and sale. This
cannot be possible without the participation of the human element .the performance of the
individual can be judge by their behavior . by securing a positive human behavior, the objective
of the organization can be better achieved and that is what OB strives to do.
