Scope of Knowledge for Emergency Medicine MedEx

The examination consists of:


• Part A: 30 True-False multiple choices questions. There is no negative
marking.
• Part B: 30 One Best Answer (OBA) questions
The duration of the examination is 2 hours.

Overview

The examination conforms to part of the syllabus from the basic emergency training,
which encompasses applied organ system anatomy, applied pathophysiology of common
emergency conditions. It also covers topics on the principle of emergency medicine
include common emergency procedures and department work process that trainees
would encounter in the Emergency and Trauma Department/Unit of a district hospital.

The examination will cover:


1. Applied anatomy and Pathophysiology of common emergency illness
2. Approach to common acute medicine
3. Approach to common trauma and acute surgery
4. Special population in the Emergency Department: children, elderly and pregnant
women.
5. Principles of Emergency Medicine (Major incident, resuscitation, common
emergency procedures and related medico-legal topics e.g. consent, ethics,
negligence, OSCC)
The candidates are expected to be able to diagnose, assess severity, and outline the
management (investigations and treatment) of common acute emergency-related
conditions.
