The last but not the least research ethic we will discuss, is respect for colleagues.

Respect for colleagues is a research ethic, which simply means having respect for your
colleagues in a way that you listen to their opinions and suggestions for the betterment of the
research paper. This means that there is no discrimination among the group that you work with;
therefore you treat each other fairly.

But how do we know that we respect our research members? We must consider the following:
first, we need to respect each other’s boundaries - respect has the capacity to either strengthen
or ruin a relationship. Just like in friendships, or any other relationships, setting limits can
improve relationships between people and have a significant impact on performance.

which then leads us to the second thing to consider; respect each other’s decision - this element
demonstrates how we respect another's judgment or correct them without offending them.
Learning how to accept a suggestion or a careful disagreement from a member, is a way to
show respect in their decision. This element can also help us improve our research conduction
by being open to each others opinions and decisions.

to be able to hear each other’s opinion, we need understanding - this helps people learn new
information and refine their connections. Research shows that greater empathy leads to helping
behavior .

Aside from being an understanding member, we should also be supportive of one another - Did
you know that experts say almost all of us benefit from having support. We need to encourage
each other to succeed and be motivated.

And lastly, what ties respect with each other most of all is communication - communication is
the key to having a better relationship with everyone, and in research groups, we are not only
focused on conducing a study, but we also need to build healthy bonds with our members to be
able to build good teamwork. we need to be open to one another, willing to talk, and ready to
work together. moreover, good communication can prevent misunderstandings that lead to
arguments. good communication leads to productivity, and increases engagement and team
building.

Now that we know the things or elements to consider in respecting our colleagues, we need to
be aware of how we violate these elements, or be aware if we are being disrespectful to our
members.

First is ignoring one's ideas - Communicating with the other members as research is being
conducted would directly benefit the whole team. Giving all members a chance to speak about
their ideas and letting them express their opinions can improve relationships as well. The more
people are working towards the same goals together, the more likelihood of success.
Next is Academic Dishonesty- Actions that are rooted in cheating or falsification of data will
likely lead to bigger and worse consequences for the whole team, that is, if you betray and show
no sign of respect for your team at all. These could include fines, loss of future projects to the
team members, as well as loss of opportunities for other students in the future.

in some cases, discrimination/Harassment can also occur- Unjust treatment of another

individual on the basis of their gender, age, race, economic status, etc. is a violation of one’s
human rights and is something that we must all refrain from doing. Harassment, on the other
hand, threatens, aggressively intimidates, or humiliates a person. . For example; Spreading
malicious rumors or gossip about your co-member/s solely for the sake of making them feel
bad. When we work in a team, we must set aside all differences and personal issues to conduct
our research efficiently.

Insubordination - If a requested action from the leader of the group is logical, ethical, and
reasonable yet there is a refusal to obey or do the command, this counts as insubordination and
is detrimental to the progress of the group.

And lastly, showing respect to members includes respecting their time and effort, and showing
lack of participation, and cooperation, and unequal amount of commitment and effort is
disrespectful.

Ever action has consequences, and here are the consequences when we violate or when we
become disrespectful towards one another

basahin m slide tas i2:

First, there can be a permanent distrust and possible relationship damages between members,
therefore we can have difficulties in developing productivity, creativity, and cooperation of
colleagues. Frustrations and stress follows, that can lead to unhealthy or hostile communication
for colleagues.
Research progress may be slowed, fall into disarray or even lead to discontinuation.
