Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus. This can make
breathing difficult and trigger coughing, a whistling sound (wheezing) when you breathe out and shortness of breath.
For some people, asthma is a minor nuisance. For others, it can be a major problem that interferes with daily

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, refers to a group of diseases that cause airflow

makes breathing difficult for the 16 million Americans who have this disease. Millions more
people suffer from COPD, but have not been diagnosed and are not being treated. Although
there is no cure for COPD, it can be treated.
Emphysema is a disease of the lungs that usually develops after many years of smoking. Both
chronic bronchitis and emphysema belong to a group of lung diseases known as chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Once it develops, emphysema can’t be reversed. This
is why not smoking or stopping smoking is very important.

cancer grow differently and are treated differently. Non-small cell lung cancer is more common than small cell
