Hà Trang: Good morning everyone, my name is Hà Trang and we are group 5 including Khánh

Linh, Trà My, Bảo Ngân, Hào Quang, Mai Thanh and myself. Today, we are going to present French
eating habits. Despite the introduction of American fast food chains, the traditional French eating
habits persisted. France is a country that considers eating as a pleasure instead of just providing the
body with the necessary substances. So the French have a different diet from many other countries.
Don’t you think this is an interesting topic to discuss? What are you waiting for? Let’s get started!

Trà My: Our presentation has 2 parts: Firstly, we’ll begin with “Eating habit”; our second idea is
French main meals and their mealtimes
Let's come to the first part of the presentation, we will have more knowledge about the eating
habits of people in France. Here are some of their certain habits:

Bảo Ngân: First of all, there is the “fixed mealtimes and no snacks”. The French always fix their
meal times for three meals a day and generally don’t make food except for three of these meals. Hào
Quang: Children usually have a snack but it will be limited to specific times. Some argue that this
custom has a downside and that the limited opening hours of French restaurants caused the
popularity of the fast food chain. However, in fact, the French like to cook at home and most choose to
buy clean local ingredients.

Khánh Linh: Besides that, they also have the notion that lunch is more important than dinner.
For them, the main meal of the day is lunch, with dinner, the amount of food is reduced. According to a
survey, French people take longer for lunch than other countries.

Bảo Ngân: Furthermore, their serving size is quite small, too. Many studies show that if we are
given more food, we will try to eat it regardless of whether we are full. Americans are especially
famous for their huge portions which lead to them consuming more calories than they need. In
contrast, the French will meticulously control the portion of each meal. French meals tend to be
smaller but still provide enough meat, vegetables, cheese and bread.

Hào Quang: In addition, fresh fruits and vegetables are also an integral part of their meals.
Traditional French cuisine relies on fruits, vegetables and meat grown at home or from local farms.
Although supermarkets now offer a wide variety of imports, the local farm market is still popular
because it's both good for the environment, fresh, and nutrient-dense.

Hà Trang: That’s the end of the first part, so join us in part two - main meals and meals time.
French people usually have three main meals including: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Trà My: Let's explore breakfast first. The French usually start their day with breakfast at 8
o'clock. The common breakfast which is also the traditional breakfast includes tartines, butter or jam,
with café crème (sometimes tea). Children often drink hot chocolate after their breakfast. Croissants
and chocolatines are almost included

Mai Thanh: Next is lunch, in France lunch will take place from 11-13 o'clock. Usually, due to the
nature of the work of people who work or go to school, people choose to stay at a restaurant near their
workplace or students eat at school. A meal includes 3 dishes: starter, main course and dessert. Most
of the starters will be quite light dishes such as salads and soups, then the main course will be meat or
fish portions with bread according to the menu of the day. Finally, the dessert, it can be cream puffs,
pancakes, ice cream, but at this time the most popular dessert is small cakes. Here are some pictures
of French students' school lunches.

Trà My: For the French, the main meal is lunch, so in the evening, the amount of food is also
reduced. Khánh Linh: Not only that, compared to the traditional way of eating 3 servings per person,
on special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays or as simple as a house party, the dinner will be
prepared a little differently. That is, everyone will prepare the appetizers on the table and whoever
likes the part will put it on their plate, continuing to move on to the main course when everyone is
done and dessert.

Hà Trang: So we have gone through all the content of the presentation already. French cuisine
is really interesting and remarkable, isn't it? Thank you everyone for listening to our group
presentation. Bye!
