Fun Science for Kids: Fire & Milk Magic

This document describes an experiment called "Fire and Milk Magic". It involves lighting a candle in a plate of milk and quickly inverting a glass over the burning candle. As the flame heats the air under the glass, the pressure rises and pushes against the milk. Once the flame goes out and the air cools, it condenses and sucks the surrounding milk into the glass. The science behind it is that heating and cooling the trapped air changes its pressure and allows it to push and pull the liquid milk.

III. SCIENCE BEHIND THE MAGIC

The flame heats the air trapped under the glass raising its pressure and pushing against the water.
When the flame uses all of its fuel (oxygen within the glass) the air cools. Cooling air condenses and acts
like a vacuum and sucks in the surrounding liquid.
