I. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
A. Content Standards
 volcanoes found in the Philippines
B. Performance The learners shall be able to:
Standards participate in activities that reduce risks and lessen effects of climate change
The learners should be able to…
C. Learning explain what happens when volcanoes erupt; S9ES –IIIb- 28
Competencies /
Objectives (Write the 1. describe each type of volcanic eruption;
LC code for each) 2. draw types of volcanic eruption;
3. reflect on the effects of these types of eruption

IV. PROCEDURE
The learners will have a recap about the previous topic.
Questions to be asked:
1. Reviewing previous
lesson or presenting the What is viscosity?
new lesson (Elicit) In which of the following liquid is the most viscous; water, honey or cooking oil? Expound.
Which liquid is least viscous?

Reaticph- Phreatic
Maticmagtophrea- Phreatomagmatic
Lianstrombo- Strombolian
Luvnicaan- Vulcanian
2. Establishing a purpose
Niplina – Plinian
for the Lesson (Engage)

SHARING OF IDEAS
-Identify other volcanoes eruptive style.

The learners will solve the given math problem to determine the lesson being presented.

3. Presenting examples/
instances of the new 28 X 6 = 168
lesson (Engage) 57 X 4 = 228
86 / 2 = 43
124 X 23 = 2,852
15 + 24 = 39
27 – 4 = 23
19 X 8 = 152
16+11=27

The learners will watch a short video clip about volcanic eruption and how it may affect the
society. https://youtu.be/CCujnt68bVg

4. Discussing new concepts

1. Based on what you have watched, what type of volcanic eruption is being shown?
and practicing new skills
2. What have you observed on the plinian type of eruption?
#1 (Explore)
3. Among all the volcanic eruptions, do you consider this as a threat to human
extinction?
4. Do you think inactive volcanoes would erupt someday? Why or why not?
DISCUSSION USING POWERPOINT PRESENTATION

Types of Volcanic Eruptions

 Phreatic or hydrothermal- Phreatic eruptions are produced by explosive expansion

of groundwater due to the sudden arrival of heat and gas from intruding magma (or
magmatic fluids)
5. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills

 Phreatomagmatic- a type of explosive eruption that results from magma erupting
through water.

https://www.nps.gov/articles/000/phreatomagmatic-eruptions.htm

 Strombolian- intermittent, discrete explosive bursts which eject pyroclasts as high as

hundreds of feet into the air in firework-like incandescent rooster-tails.

https://www.nps.gov/articles/000/strombolian-eruptions.htm

 Vulcanian- moderately explosive but intermittent, producing moderate ash columns.

These eruptions are more explosive than Strombolian, and sometimes destroy part of
the volcanic edifice.

https://www.q-files.com/earth/volcanoes/types-of-volcanic-eruption

 Plinian- extremely explosive eruptions, producing ash columns that extend many
tens of miles into the stratosphere and that spread out into an umbrella shape.

Assessment 3) (Explain) Each group will draw the assigned different volcanic eruptions. Make a short description on
your chosen volcanic eruption and indicate the name of the volcano.
I. Phreatic/hydrothermal
II. Phreatomagmatic
III. Strombolian
IV. Vulcanian
V. Plinian
7. Finding practical Where are you when Taal Volcano erupted on January 12, 2020? How do you classify the
applications of concepts eruptive style of this volcano?
and skills in daily living
(Elaborate)
Why do you think volcanoes have different eruptive style?
8. Making generalizations -the style of eruption depends on a number of factors, including the magma chemistry and
and abstractions about content, temperature, viscosity, volume and how much water and gas is in it, the presence of
the lesson (Elaborate) groundwater, and the plumbing of the volcano gases and lava.
