PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
1. CHECKING OF
ATTENDANCE
2. REVIEW 5 mins.
(ELICIT)
Start the lesson by Unlocking of Difficulties.
Define terms to be encountered:
a. What is Volcano?
b. What are the different basic parts of Volcano?
c. What is Crater and Caldera?
d. What is Magma and Lava?
3. MOTIVATION 10 mins.
(ENGAGE)
Presentation of the lesson Present the Different types of Volcano through a video presentation
Volcanoes can be classified according to its shape and eruption.
4. ACTIVITY 20mins.
(EXPLORE)
Identify the following volcanoes as Shield Volcano, Cinder Cone
Volcano and Composite Volcano
1. Mt. Saint Helens in Washington State (Cinder Cone)
2. Mt. Fuji in Japan (Composite Volcano)
3. Mauna Kea in Hawaii ( Shield Volcano)
5. ANALYSIS 10 mins.
(EXPLAIN)
Different Types of Volcanic Eruption
a. Phreatic or hydrothermal – is a stream-driven eruption as the hot
rocks come in contact with water. Also known as Hydrothermal.
b. Phreatomagmatic – is a violent eruption due to the contact between
magma and water
c. Strombolian – it is a periodic weak to violent eruption characterized
by fountain lava just like Irazu Volcano in Costa Rica.
d. Vulcanian – characterized by tall eruption columns that reach up to
20 km high with pyroclastic flow and ashfall tephra like that of
Paricutin Volcano in Mexico.
e. Plinian – excessively explosive type of eruption of gas and
pyroclastics, just like our Pinatubo Volcano in Zambales in year 1991.
6. APPLICATION 5 mins.
(ELABORATE)
Moreover, we can also classify volcanoes according to its Record of
Eruption
Active Volcano – if it has a record of eruption
Inactive Volcano – if it shows no activity and no record of
eruption just like Mount Kanlaon in Negros Occidental
7. EVALUATION 5 mins.
(EVALUATE)
Learners shared their insights and ideas or opinions about the lesson
through their group chats or online class via zoom or Google meet.
8. ASSIGNMENT 5 mins.
(EXTEND)
