1. Divide the class into 3 groups.
2. Provide each group with the cut-outs of pictures of different volcanoes in
the Philippines.
3. Within 2 minutes let the group form the pictures and identify the name of
the volcano.

Activity 1. Volcano concept map
Procedure:
Q1. Based on the picture, give five descriptions of a volcano. Present your
answer in a concept map as shown below.
Q2. Based on the three pictures, identify and describe the three main
types of volcanoes: stratovolcano/composite volcano, cinder cone volcano,
and shield volcano.
Procedure: 1. Using the Philippine map (fig. 3), plot the location of the following
volcanoes. Assign colors for the volcanoes. Indicate this in the legend .

Despite their destructive power, volcanoes actually come with their share of
benefits like soil enrichment, volcanic land formations, volcanic minerals and
stones, global cooling, hotsprings and geothermal energy.
HISTORY
The world’s largest volcanic eruption to happen in the past 100 years was the
June 15, 1991, eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines.

Mount Mayon is a classic stratovolcano with a small central summit crater.
The cone is considered the world’s most perfectly formed volcano for it’s
symmentry. It is one of the popular tourist spots in the province of Albay.
AGRICULTURE
Volcanic deposits can develop into some of the richest agricultural lands on
earth.
ECONOMICS
Most of the volcanoes are tourist spots. In that case, it can contribute to our
economy because people flock in that scenery.
ENGINEERING
Volcanoes are a great source of geothermal energy which is a renewable
source of energy.
