Today’s Gospel : Luke 12:13-21

Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the
inheritance with me.”
He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?”
Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one
may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”
Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a
bountiful harvest.
He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’
And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger
ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods and I shall say to myself,
“Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest,
eat, drink, be merry!”
But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and
the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’
Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in
what matters to God.”
This is the word of the Lord.
R:Thanks be to God.
Reflection:
Our gospel for today is from Luke 12:13-21. This talks about the parable of
the rich fool . God’s words are actually the food of our soul. The gospel tells and
teaches us a lot. It points at how we can get caught up in what we own and what
people have. It’s all about greediness and how possession dominates and take us
over. If we would only remember, wealth, honor and pride are the three
obstacles of our faith. We are all equal in the eyes of God, and what we have is a
gift, given to us for the benefit of the world, the community and neighborhood;
not only for the good of ourselves. This gospel reminds us in every way we are
today. We are like the rich fool accumulating all the wealth in this world, yet
we forgot to make our souls full. The gospel from Luke 12:13-21 is very clear
in its message towards us. We must fill our souls first with good deeds to
rich.

Wealth is just a temporary thing that will be perished in the judgement day. This
remind us that Money and worldly possessions are nothing because when we
die, we leave them all soon. We must prepare ourselves for we do not know
when we are due. When that time comes, our body will separate from our
souls. It is then our souls that we need to fill out with good deeds.
It is better to look at things at a different perspective when God wants us to
do well. We should always remember that it is not bad to be rich in this world,
but we should also be rich in faith, love and hope as these things can help us to
nourish our faith and may lead us always closer to God.
Prayer
Heavenly God, we praise and glorify your Almighty name. Please protect us at all
times, at all costs so that we can use are lives in serving you. May you always
remind us that we should not focus our lives here on Earth for worldly things, but
to live a life in accordance to Your will. Please forgive our sins and trespasses that
we have committed, so that, we can be at least righteous before You. Once again,
we bring back all the glory, honor and praise unto You. We asked these, in the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior, Amen.
