SOCSCI 12: CARLO MIGUEL RODEJO
Today, our closest living ancestors are chimpanzees, and looking at our family
tree of human evolution, we are super compared to what we were before. An example
would be “Sahelanthropus Tchadensis”, which is the first known hominin that emerged
in Africa about 7 million years ago and whose canine teeth were smaller than those of
earlier apes3. Another was just discovering the ability to walk on two feet and having
big brains. Homo Habilis, which the stone tools may have been produced by, and a lot
more4. We are truly large when compared to the entire human ancestry, and
unfortunately, we are the only ones left. An interesting thing is that we are just one
species out of those many discovered and undiscovered beings.
