MEME 2:

The new face of modern humans includes celebrities, particularly comedians

and influencers. It’s quite funny to comprehend how humans evolved from
hominins—a class of mammalia—to humans with personalities where certain
characteristics distinguished them from our ancestors1. Modern faces that are
provided in the above figure are Miss Everything, SassaGurl, Mimiyuhhh, and Kween
Yasmeen. Although there are a lot more comedians to include, these four are the ones
that struck me the most since they are the leading and trending personalities on
social media. It’s funny to think that these are the kinds of humans at present,
compared to before, when we came from orangutans, gorillas, or chimpanzees2.
Modern humans now have different talents that entertain fellow humans; some have
become icons or idols, and some have deep advocacies such as fighting for LGBTQIA
rights or campaigning for a competent female politician. A lot has changed from
discovering how to fulfill basic needs to surviving in the wilderness.

Today, our closest living ancestors are chimpanzees, and looking at our family
tree of human evolution, we are super compared to what we were before. An example
would be “Sahelanthropus Tchadensis”, which is the first known hominin that emerged
in Africa about 7 million years ago and whose canine teeth were smaller than those of
earlier apes3. Another was just discovering the ability to walk on two feet and having
big brains. Homo Habilis, which the stone tools may have been produced by, and a lot
more4. We are truly large when compared to the entire human ancestry, and
unfortunately, we are the only ones left. An interesting thing is that we are just one
species out of those many discovered and undiscovered beings.
