Select a global health issue affecting the international health community. Briefly describe

the global health issue and its impact on the larger public health care systems (i.e.,

continents, regions, countries, states, and health departments). Discuss how health care

delivery systems work collaboratively to address global health concerns and some of the

stakeholders that work on these issues.

A global health issues which is affecting the international health community is mental disorder.

Mental disorder such as anxiety, depression, stress and eating disorder are now common health

issues that is affecting, youths and adults globally (Nochaiwong et al., 2021). According to the

World Health Organization report, one out of every four people is suffering from mental disorder

(Mills, 2018). Factors that cause mental disorder and substance abuse include financial

problems, loss of a loved one, divorce, medical conditions and stressful conditions and is major

cause of social isolation, substance abuse and stress. The impacts of mental disorder include

increase in economic cost through low costs in the healthcare systems and reduce the

productivity which impacts economic growth. In addition, the burden of mental disorder

accounts for 4.7% of total disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) (Mokdad et al., 2018).

Healthcare delivery system works collaboratively to address mental illness globally by

educating individuals on effective strategies they can adopt to prevent and treat mental illness.

Examples of interventions include stress management and coping and pharmacological

interventions. Other interventions used by healthcare systems include meditation, exercises,

therapy sessions and cognitive behavioral strategies. The interventions used by the healthcare

systems is focused on improving the patient’s quality of life and be able to self-care. In the

United States, healthcare workers collaborate with the government, public health, psychiatric

centers and private sectors to improve the treatment and prevention of mental illness.
