1. Speak About the Photo: Sample answer In this photo, a quaint house is tucked into a vast field of rolling
hills, just its rooftop visible. The only other manmade structure, perhaps a barn, sits up on a far hill. Even
though the fields consist mostly of grass, some small clusters of trees and shrubs are scattered around. Yellow
flowers appear to be growing all over the central hill, but nowhere else, which makes me think, along with the
freshly cut grass, that this land is highly maintained by its owners. From the pair of tire tracks running across
the hills, it looks like a vehicle has recently passed by, but they do not lead to the house. Due to the foliage
being full and green, it is likely a lovely summer day with light cumulus clouds dotting a clear blue sky.

2. Read, Then Speak: Sample answer One difficult decision I’ve had to make a few times in my life is which
city to live in next. It’s a particularly difficult decision because it affects everything, from friends and family to
finances and social life. The most difficult one of all however was deciding to move out of my home country.
One year, I decided to make a big change and move abroad to South Korea. I didn’t speak the language, but I
was ready for a new challenge and to experience a very different way of life. In the end, it wasn’t always easy
to get by. But I was very glad to get out of my comfort zone, make new friends, and broaden my horizons.

Question: Every country has beautiful cities. Describe your favorite city. Why do you like it?
Sample Answer: I have been privileged to see many unique cities around the world, from the outstanding New
York City to spectacular Singapore. But one city that I will always love is Busan in South Korea. It’s not really
world famous like other major world cities. But it is a very pleasant, affordable city with a lot of beautiful
scenery nearby. Firstly, it’s on the coast and has nice beaches and islands close to the city center. Then there’s
a mountain overlooking the sea. As well as the forest and countryside surrounding it. Additionally, it has a
clean, modern metro system and a high standard of living. It's a very great city to live in.

4. Listen, Then Speak: Sample answer

Question: Describe a time you were frightened. What happened?
Sample Answer: One of the scariest times of my life was when I took a trip around Bangkok on a motorbike.
Rather than take a normal taxi, I decided to take a motorbike taxi to avoid the traffic. But in this case, the
driver was one of the fastest, riskiest drivers I have ever seen and this made for a terrifying journey. He was
such a dangerous driver! He even answered the phone while driving his motorbike incredibly fast. At one point
we even hit another car that was in front of us. When the journey came to an end, I promised myself that I will
never take a motorbike taxi again.

5. Read, Then Write: Sample answer I agree that the advent of modern technology such as smartphones has
improved people's social lives. Firstly, the invention of online social media sites, such as Twitter and Facebook,
has dramatically reduced the need to have face-to-face interactions. Through these social apps, people can
easily keep in touch and communicate with whoever they want, close friends or total strangers, from
anywhere they choose. Secondly, people can share any type of news, information, and photos with their loved
ones in an instant keeping a feeling of closeness. To sum up, I firmly believe that overall sociability has
advanced enormously thanks to technology.

Part 4: Writing & Speaking Sample

1. Speaking Sample: Sample answer One of the most exciting experiences in my life so far was when I
launched my first project for my business. I felt very proud of the product I had made, but I also had doubts
about how I could find people to buy the product. So ultimately, I had very low expectations and just hoped a
few people would like the product and support me. Once launch day arrived, I was nervous but hopeful. At
first, nothing happened and I started to get very worried. For the first few hours, my fears seemed to be
confirmed. But then slowly over time, people began to find and buy the project, and it turned into one of the
most exciting times of my life.

2. Writing Sample: Sample answer I have been lucky to have many memorable journeys over the years. This
journey, one of the most memorable ones of my life, took place when I just started university. I needed to visit
my uncle in a city, far away from my hometown, where he just had started his first job. My dad and I drove
across the whole country to get there stopping off at several amazing historical sites along the way. It was a
fantastic bonding experience, and a journey that I will always remember fondly.
