At The Family Table

When a family sits down together, it gives them a chance to share stories and ideas from each
family member’s experiences. It is also the time to practice manners, listening, and taking turns in
conversation. This shows that even in simple meals, there is communication.

In the spacious kitchen, while Mom and Dad prepare dinner, they listen to their children chatting
and laughing as they finish their homework at the large mahogany table by the picture window that
faces the bucolic backyard. This demonstrates features of communication, such as communication
being a process since information is exchanged between the children and communication taking
place between two or more individuals.

Finally, the family sits at the table close to each other to savor the delicious meal and talk about the
events of their day. They rattle off with such exuberance and enthusiasm all the horrendous and
exciting things they did during the day.

Different facial expressions can be observed among the family members as they discuss their daily
experiences. They expressed their emotions through body movements and gestures during the
family conversation. Furthermore, the family demonstrates a strong bond since they are seated close
to each other.
