I would like to apply for the Computer Science Research Institute Research and Development
summer internship you advertised through your website. My current education in computer science
with minors in math and biology as well as my background in management and customer service
would make me a valuable addition to your research and development team.

Achieving a 4.2 GPA with a challenging, full-time computer science course load while also
managing my part-time responsibilities in a busy healthcare office demonstrates my discipline and
dedication to learning in this field. In a competitive program, I have excelled at courses in
intermediate programming, data organization, computer logic, and high-level mathematics. I have
also been exposed to mathematical modeling techniques in my higher-level math courses such as
statistics and calculus. An educational background in human nutrition, foods, and exercise and
biology would also make me a well-rounded candidate to add to your team. If hired, I would continue
to show my commitment to computer science with an enthusiasm to learn parallel programming in a
multidisciplinary research environment.

My extensive experience in customer service and management has provided me with many
transferrable skills that are an asset to any team environment. Communication, problem-solving,
adaptability, and patience are key skills I have gained through my experience with managing and
working in multiple fast-paced team environments. These skills and experiences are an asset to any
collaborative research environment.

Sandia National Laboratories’ research interests align with my professional interests and goals. Your
work in computational biology to better understand biological systems and relationships and your
research in climate change are two subjects I am excited to learn more about. I am passionate about
computer science and being able to apply that passion in different scientific settings is what drew me
to this position. You would be hiring a candidate who is eager to learn and enthusiastic about the work
Sandia does.
