Understand the skills needed to pursue a career in the creative media sector (3.

2)

Task 1
Look at the twelve skills and place them in order of difficulty, with the most difficult first
(you can do this by cutting and pasting them in order):

Effective use of session time

I do find this extremely hard due to the fact that some sessions I do get easily distracted
and I find it hard to get back on task.

Getting started with the task

I find this hard as well because sometimes I find it hard to just get straight on with the
task which is annoying because I end up not meeting deadlines.

Evaluating own work

This is also difficult to manage as sometimes I don’t really understand how to evaluate
my own work like a teacher or tutor would.

Time management
This is slightly difficult to achieve as I do not meet the deadlines sometimes and that is
definitely not a good thing to happen, especially on this course.

Motivation and staying motivated

I do find this difficult but not incredibly hard to do, this is because I do sometimes find a
lack of motivation from doing my work which is not a great thing to have.

Use of IT skills
This can sometimes be hard for me as I can't get my head around some software I use
in college, and it can make me fall behind when I spend a whole session learning how
to use one bit of kit.
Speaking in front of others
This is hard for me due to anxiety which makes me nervous speaking Infront of large number of
groups, especially if I don’t know them. This is not a great thing to be nervous about as you may
not be able to speak on tv or others, but you can definitely build up confidence.

Reading skills
This isn't really a bad thing for me but sometimes I do read a bit too quickly and whoever I'm
reading stuff to may not understand what I say but sometimes this is not the case.

Writing skills
I can confidently say that I am able to write a good amount of work that does make sense if I
am set the task, however this is when I am motivated which isn't all the time, but it Definitely
helps.

Presentation skills
I reckon if one of my tutors told me to do a presentation on something to my class, I believe I
would be able to present a full lesson to my classmates.

Working with others

I am really good at working with people I have met before, and I do not see myself being rude
or causing arguments with them because I am an easy-going person and I'm good at achieving
this.

Memory
I can confidently say that my memory is really good, and I do have a vast memory of random
moments as well as knowledge of past classes and events.

Task 2
These are skills which you can use on the course which you may have used in
other situations.
Highlight as many of these transferable skills which definitely apply to you:

Key Transferable Skills

Meet deadlines Work independently
Ability to plan Accept responsibility
Instruct others Desire to learn/improve
Good time management Solve problems
Talk in public
Team player
Written communications
Computer/IT skills

My strongest skill in this sector is accepting responsibility or solving problems, I always

accept responsibility for things that are my fault unlike other people who disregard it and
blame others, and as for solving problems I really enjoy doing problem solving as this
always challenges me but I really enjoy doing problems in media like overcoming a
certain task or project.

Other Transferable Skills

(Dealing with things)
Use my hands Assemble/make things
Safety conscious Follow instructions
Drive vehicles Repair things
Two things I can say are that I am able to follow a set of instructions, even if they are
not set out clearly but I manage to get around this obstacle by filling in the gaps and
taking risks. I also can say that I am able to use my hands correctly and I never do
anything bad with my hands and I am able to fix things or make things easily with my
hands.

Dealing with Data

Analyse data or facts Working with spreadsheets
Locate answers or information Research
I am able to research confidently and find out research that people may not know. I can
find out facts or percentages for people on pieces of media they might need.

Creative, Artistic
Artistic Perform, act Expressive
Draw, sketch Play instruments
I can say that I am a very expressive person in how I dress, how I act and definitely how
I talk as well. I thoroughly like the way I dress, and I feel like this expresses my
personality, which is the idea I would like people to know.
Working with People
Patient Care for others Persuasive
Pleasant Sensitive Outgoing
Supportive Help others Tactful

High energy Diplomatic Adaptable

Open minded Take orders Speak in
public
Listen Trustful Negotiate

I am definitely a very persuasive person. I am able to be given a task and persuade

people to do it and I am very proud of myself that I can do this. I could easily go out in
my college and persuade people to do something if I tried. Another good trait I have is
that I can negotiate very well with people. For example, I can negotiate prices for things,
and I feel like I can do this confidently and I definitely win people over.
Using Words, Ideas
Articulate Innovative Communicate verbally
Logical Remember information Remember names
Research Create new ideas Design
Speak in public Presentations Edit information
Write clearly
As I have said further up in this document about my memory, I can easily remember
information I've been told in the past and remember it and take that knowledge and
teach other people of what ive learned in the past. One other thing I am good at is
remembering names, most people do not remember names but I am able to confidently
remember names of people I have encountered beforehand.

Leadership
Arrange an event Motivate people Decisive
Plan Delegate Empower others
Explain things to others Self-motivated Get results
Think of others Team builder Solve problems
Take risks

I fully believe in myself that I could plan a whole event and release it to the public, I
really could do this and if I was given the chance by my tutors and I certainly would not
disappoint.

Task 3
Give a brief description of why each of the following nineteen effective working
practices are considered important to the Level 3 Creative Media course. Also grade
yourself out 10 for each one

1) Punctuality- this is important because you write a lot of information on topics and
tasks so punctuality is a very important thing to have for this course, I would give
myself a 7 out of 10 for this.
2) Motivation- this is also a really important aspect to have for this couse due to the
amount of work that is set, motivation is a key characteristic to have for this
course. You do need a lot of motivation for this course to pass it and to complete
the work that is set. I would give myself a solid 5 for this characteristic.

3) Reviewing your own work (at the end of a session or assignment)- this is a really
good thing to do once you have completed any form of task or assignment
because you need to double check that you have done everything tat is asked of
you. Especially need to grammar check everything by using SPAG (spelling,
punctuation and grammar). I would give myself 9 out of 10 for this aspect.

4) Plan ahead- I would say this is important as you can't go straight into a task
reassignment without planning first what you need to do or what you want to do,
yes you might have all these ideas, but it is best to plan and write it all down
beforehand. I would say im a 4 out of 10 for this.

5) Be organized- being organized is good because you can have everything you
need prepared and ready for when you complete a task which you are set. This
also counts as research, researching content beforehand does count as being
organized and is something you need to do. I would give myself a 6 out of 10 for
this.

6) Keeping promises to colleagues- keeping promises is a very trustworthy thing to

do because if you keep your promises this could build trust with your peers but if
you break them then people will not trust you again and it is a bad thing if people
do not trust you. I would say that im a solid 8 out of 10 for this.

7) Prioritize work- need to keep on track of work and not fail to do so. I would give
myself a 6 out of 10 for this.

8) If unsure, ask- there are of course things I will not know or understand so I will
have to ask my peers or tutors how I would overcome this. I would say im a 7 out
of 10 for this.
9) Maintain concentration and focus- there could be points where I would fall behind
schedule or miss a deadline so I would have to maintain my focu and actually
concentrate of the tasks ahead of me. I would say im a 6 out of 10.

10)Watch your language- its not really nice swearing on a task or assingment and it
would make you look unprofessional to others. 8 out of 10.

11) Give positive feedback to others- giving feedback to other peers is good to do
because you can critic their work with positive words. 5 out of 10.

12)Share the credit- if youre doing a group project and you all do an equal amount of
work, it would be a grown up thing to do as it would make you look professional.
7 out of 10.

13)Be a team member- being a team member is a good thing as it could build up
your confidence and help you gain an understanding of what it would be like in a
tv studio where you could potentially talk to hundreds of people each week that
you do not know. 9 out of 10.

14) Avoid complaining- there is not point complaining to anyone as its pointless and
does not help anyone at all. 8 out of 10.

15) Find a mentor or become a mentor- if you find a mentor this could be really good
and actually healthy for you as they can guide you and help you accomplish
ideas that you can't yet achieve by yourself. Or if you become a mentor, you
could actually teach people certain aspects that they might not know so you can
help them with what you know. 7 out of 10.

16)Effective time management- having effective time management helps with your
mindset due to the idea of being on time does not bring your mental health down
and would make you look professional as well. 5 out of 10.
17)Taking a short break- you can get overwhelmed with the amount of work you are
set and it can help your mental health by taking a break from doing work and
relaxing. 7 out of 10

18)Recognizing errors or mistakes- if you pick up on mistakes or errors you make,

this could impact your work down the line as you can easily just check for them
and change them in seconds because you're used to doing so. 7 out of 10.

19)Seeing opportunities- if you see opportunities they could be your chance to excel
into further chances in securing the work choices you would want. 6 out of 10.
