How is the marking scheme of German A1?

Many aspirant wants to know about A1 level exam.

*************** A1 Level Test ***************

For clearing exam one should

 To understand what people are saying in daily life conversation.


 Able to use Greeting words and to create basic sentence structures.
 Able to interpolate the messages written a public place and can direct oneself
according to that.
 Able to introduce own self and can ask formal questions to others.
 Able to write simple messages to others for verbal communication.
 Able to pronounce the name of daily utilities.
There are four sections for the A1 level exam for the German language.

these sections are :

 Hören (Hearing) Duration for 20 minutes.


 Lesen (Reading) Duration for 25 minutes.
 Schreiben (Writing) Duration for 20 minutes.
 Sprechen (Speaking) Duration for 20 minutes.
The total marks for the exam are 100

As all four sections have equal weightage each section will contain 25 marks. To pass the exam
one has to score a minimum of 60 out of 100.

Let's see all the sections with details.

There will be points for the right answers.

1 Point = 1.66 Marks

***** Hören (Hearing) *****

It contains three sub tests - 20 minutes.

Each question contain 1 point.


 Test 1: It contains MCQ(Multiple Choice Question). you will listen to conversations
between two people. According to that, you have to choose the right answer from all
three options. Here you will see the image. There will be a total of 6 questions.
 Test 2: It contains True or False type questions. You have to select any of the options.
You will hear instructions or any announcements. there will be a total of 4 questions.
 Test 3: It contains again MCQ(Multiple Choice Question) questions You will listen to
audio according to that you have to choose an answer. Here you will not get any
image. There will be a total of 5 questions.
Now, 6+4+5 = 15 total 15 questions are there. So, 15*1.66 = 24.9 Marks

***** Lesen (Reading)*****

It contains three sub tests - 25 minutes

 Test 1: It contains True or False type questions there will be a paragraph. you have to
read it and from that have to select the appropriate answer. There will be 2 questions.
 Test 2: It contains two paragraphs and from that, you have to select A or B. There will
be a total of 10 questions.
 Test 3: It contains instructions. You have to understand that instruction and according
to that answer is True or False. There will be a total of 3 questions.
Now, 2+10+3 = 15, total 15 questions are there. So, 15*1.66 = 24.9 Marks

***** Schreiben (Writing) *****

It contains two sub tests - 20 minutes

 Test 1: It contains Filling the blanks type questions. There will be a total of 5
questions.
 Test 2: You have to write a letter according to the given topic. There will be three
instructions given to you. You have to write a letter by keeping these instructions in
mind. It will give you 10 points
Now, 5+10 = 15, test 1 contain 5 points and Test 2 contain 10 points so 15*1.66 = 24.9 Marks.

***** Sprechen (Speaking) *****

It contains Three subtests - 20 minutes

 Test 1: It contains 3 points. You have to introduce yourself


 Test 2: It contains 6 points. You will be given a cue card you have to create 4
questions from that.
 Test 3: It contains 6 Points. You have to ask those questions to your neighbors.
Now, 3+6+6 = 15, So 15*1.66 = 24.9 Marks.

24.9+24.9+24.9+24.9 = 99.6 ≈ 100.

So, from these 100 you have to get 60 Marks to clear the exam.

Generally in A1 and A2 exams you must attemp all the 4 Tasks:

1. Listening :- Number of Task 2

 10 MCQ - You can hear script 2 times.


 5 True and False - No repeatation
2. Speaking : Number of Task 2

 Your Introduction In German


 Quecard : In Quecard you must formulate the question from Quecard and ask
your neighbor candidate that particular question.
 You must create 4 questions from 4 Quecard. Each have been different topic.
3. Reading : Number of task 2

 10 MCQ
 Find 5 answer from the letter
4. Writing : Number of task 2

 Fill in the blank


 Write 30 words letter according to given topic.
-Total marks of examination are 60. Total marks of each task is 15. Goethe Institute give
marks out of hundred (100).

- Minimum passing marks is 60/100.

For A1 exam conducted by Goethe you have to score 60% overall i.e

Lesen+ Horen+Schreiben+Sprechen should be 60% in total.
