b) A body starts from rest and accelerates at 2m/s2 for 5 seconds. Calculate

c) A baseball is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 20m/s. Find the

5. a) An electric heater is rated at 250W. Calculate the heat generated in 20 minutes


b) A taxi driver stopped his car by pressing the brakes to avoid a collision with a lorry
that had suddenly stopped in front of him. What was the energy change that took
place in this process? (at least two)
c) A rubber ball of mass 012kg is held at a height of 25m above the ground, and then
released.
i) Calculate the kinetic energy of the ball just before it hits the ground.
ii) Calculate the velocity of the ball just before it hits the ground.
iii) Give one (1) reason why the ball rebounds to a height of less than 25m
above the ground

6. a) State the

b) A cube of wood of side 5cm and density 800kg/m3 is placed in water. What force
must be applied to the cube so that the top surface of the cube is on the same level as
the water surface?
c) A passenger ferry with vertical sides has a water-line area of 1800m2. When fully
laden with passengers it sinks 08cm. If the average mass of passenger is 72kg,
calculate the number of passengers on board.

7. a) Mention three points to be considered when drawing a ray diagram to show


formation of images on a concave mirror.
b) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image in a concave mirror when an

iii) Give the properties of image formed on i) and ii) above (Note F=Principal
focus, C=centre of curvature and P=Pole of mirror)
c) If the critical angle for air and glass media is 41, what is the refractive index of a
glass block?

ii) resistivity of a given conductor
b) i) Three cells each of e.m.f 15V and internal resistance of 3Ω are connected in
series to an external resistor of 11Ω . What is the current in the resistor?
ii) If the same cells are connected in parallel to each other and the combination
placed in series with the 11Ω resistor. What will the current in the
resistor be?
c) A cell connected in series with a 2Ω resistor gives a current of 025A. When a
second 2Ω resistor is connected in parallel with the first the current becomes
03A, calculate

9. a) i) State the principle of conservation of linear momentum
ii) Draw a sketch of velocity-time graph for a body moving from rest at point A
and accelerates uniformly to point B where it attains a certain velocity which
is then maintained to point C lastly it falls down to the original horizontal level at D.
(use metres and seconds as the standard units.)
b) A communication satellite appears to be stationary over one point on the
Earth’s surface when it moving in a circular orbit of radius 42,000km. Find its
speed in km/h given that it must complete one orbit in 24hours
c) Two cars of the same mass collide head-on and become tangled so that they
move on together. If the engines of both were stopped at the moment of impact
and the speeds of the cars at the impact were 120m/sec and 200m/sec. Find
the common velocity immediately after collision.

11. a) Give one difference between evaporation and boiling and state three(3) factors affecting
evaporation.
b) Why is the freezing compartment located near the top of the cabinet?
c) Explain why the external metal fins become hot when there refrigerator is operation.
d) It is required to convert 05kg of water at 20C to 00C using a refrigerator which can extract
heat at an average rate of 20J/s. Determine whether this is possible within a period of 45 minutes.
