Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pipes K 6741-1975
1. Scope
This standard is applicable to the unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pips
(hereinafter referred to as pipe) to, be used as the piping for the conveyance of general
fluid, excluding unplasticized polyvinyl chloride pipes for water service specified in
JIS K 6742.
Remark: In this standard the particulars in| | are in accordance with the inter-
national system of Units (SI) and given for reference only.
2, Material and Manufacturing Method. -
Pipe shall be manufactured from the vinyl chloride polymers as the main
material without adding plasticizer by the extrusion molding.
3, Classification
Pipes shall be classified according to the nominal pressure as shown in Table 1.

4. Quality
4.1 Golor of Pipe Standard color of the pipe shall be grey. But other colors
may be permitted to use according to the agreement between the parties concerned.
4.2 Appearance and Shape
(1) Internal and external surfaces of the pipe should be smooth without the
harmful flaw, longitudinal streak, crack, distortion and other defects,
(2) Pipe shall be practically straight and also its section shall be practically
regular circle and its both ends should be vertical to its axis.
(3) Processing of the end parts of the pipe as faucet and spigot according to
the agreement between the parties concerned is justifiable, But when the
pipes are used for the coveyance under pressure, the faucet and spigot of
the pipes shall be joined, and conform to the water pressure test under
5.5.
4.3 Dimension _ Dimension of the pipe shall be in accordance with that given
in Table 2 and the following each clause.
(1) Basic dimensions of nominal one and external diameter shall be in common
with VP and VU.
(2) The maximum and minimum external diameters shall be the maximum and
minimum values in the measured values of the external diameter at an
arbitrary spot.
(3) The average external diameter shall be the arithmetical average value of the
measured values in more than two directions at equal spaces with one at an
arbitrary spot or the value obtained by dividing the measured value of
circumference by the circular constant of 3. 142.
(4) Approximate internal diameter and reference weight (calculated at a specified
gravity of 1,43) are shown as the reference and these are not a part of the
standard,
(5) Standard of the length of pipe shall be 4000410 mm. But the length may be
other than this according to the agreement between the parties concerned.
(6) Pipe shall be designated by affixing its classification in front of the nominal
size such as VP50 or VUSO.3

5.2 Appearance and Shape _Inspect with the naked-eye.
5.3 Dimensiong _Inapect with a micrometer specified in JIS B 7507, circular
measure and others.
5.4 ‘Tension Test Calculate the sectional area S (mm?) of the test piece by the
following formula.
S=txd
where t : minimum value of the thickness (mm)
i¢ b : minimum value of the length of chord (mm)
Draw the test piece according to JIS K 7113 at a rate of 10 mm per minute and
calculate the tensile strength by dividing the maximum load by the sectional area
obtained from above formula.
When the test is performed at a temperature other than 20°C, the tensile strength
F (kgf/mm2) at 20°C shall be obtained by the following formula.
PoFy46.65 (0-20)
where Fi: Tensile strength (kgf/mm) (Njmmt}at °C.
0: Temperature at the time of test (°C)
But the applicable range of temperature shall be from 5'C to 35°C.6
K 6741-1975
5.5 Hydraulic Test Apply the pressure shown in Table 5 to the test piece with
water of 10 to 30°C and allow to leave as it is for 1 minute,

5.6 Flattening Test Place the test piece between two flat plates and compress
it in the direction vertical to the axis of the pipe at a rate of 10 mm per minute until
the external diameter is compressed to half of its own length. Temperature of the test
shall be the norma! temperature.
5.7 Steeping Test After steeping the test piece in the test liquid shown in
Table 6 at 60+2°C for 5 hours, wash it in the flowing water for 5 seconds (In case
of the steeping in water, washing is unnecessary) and wipe off the water on its surface
with a dry cloth, Then put it in.a weighing bottle and weigh its weight. Calculate the
change in weight d (mg/cm?) by the following formula.
where _w.: Weight of the test piece before the test (ing).
in: Weight of the test piece after the test (mg).
5: Surface area of the test piece (cm?)
