SECTION-I
1. A half metre rod is pivoted at the centre with two weights of 20 gf
and 10 gf suspended at a perpendicular distance of 5 cm and 10 cm
from the pivot respectively, as shown in the given figure. If the
direction of 20 gf force is reversed then what will be the magnitude of
the resultant moment of the forces on the rod ? [2]

2. An electric heater is rated 100 W – 200 V. Calculate: (i) the resistance of the heating element. (ii) the
current flowing through it. [2]
3. A pulley system has three pulleys. A load of 120 N is overcome by applying an effort of 50 N. Calculate the
mechanical advantage and efficiency of this system. [2]
4. A solid metal weighing 150 g melts at its melting point of 800℃ by providing heat at the rate of 100 W.
The time taken for it to melt completely at the same temperature is 4 min. What is the specific latent heat of
fusion of the metal. [2]
5. Find: (i) the current through the 3 Ω resistor. (ii) the voltage across the 6 Ω resistor. [2]

6. A uniform metre scale is in equilibrium position. Calculate the mass of the ruler. [2]

7. A metal wire of resistance 6 Ω is stretched so that its length increased to twice of original length. Calculate
its new resistance. [2]
8. 6.4 kJ of energy causes a displacement of 64 m in a body in the direction of force in 2.5 s. Calculate: (i) the
force applied. (ii) Power in horse power. [2]
9. Calculate the quantity of heat produced in a 20 Ω resistor carrying 2.5 A current in 5 minutes. [2]
10. Displacement-distance graph of two sound waves A and B, travelling in a medium are shown in the
diagram below:

Study the two sound waves and compare their: (i) amplitudes and (ii) wavelengths. [2]
11. A coin placed at the bottom of a beaker appears to be raised by 4 cm. If the refractive index of water is
4/3. Find the depth of the water in the beaker. [2]

12. A metal wire has a resistance of 60 Ω. It is cut into three equal lengths. Find the equivalent resistance:
(i) When two parts are connected in parallel and the third part is in series with them.
(ii) When all three parts connected in parallel. [2]
13. A child is using a spectacle with power of – 2.5 D. What is its focal length ? [2]
14. A lens of focal length 20 cm forms an inverted image at a distance 60 cm from the lens. (i) How far is the
lens present in front of the object ? (ii) Calculate the magnification of the image. [2]
15. The critical angle for glass air interface is 42°. The light rays are allowed to pass
through a total reflecting prism as shown in the given figure. Find the refractive
index of the glass prism with respect to air. [2]

SECTION-II
16. Three resistors are connected to a 6 V battery as shown in the figure. Calculate: (i) the equivalent
resistance of the circuit.
(ii) total current in the circuit.
(iii) potential difference across the 7.2 Ω resistor. [3]

17. A copper vessel of mass 100 g contains 150 g of water at 50℃. How much ice is needed to cool it to 5℃ ?
Given: Specific heat capacity of copper = 0.4 J g – 1 ℃ - 1 ; Specific heat capacity of water = 4.2 J g – 1 ℃ - 1 ;
Specific latent heat of fusion of ice = 336 J g – 1. [3]

18. A pulley system with a velocity ratio of 4 is used to lift a load of 150 kgf through a vertical height of 20 m.
The effort required is 50 kgf in downward direction. Calculate: (i) the distance moved by the effort. (ii) the
work done by the effort. (iii) the mechanical advantage. (iv) the efficiency of the pulley system. [4]

19. With reference to the given diagram calculate:


(i) the equivalent resistance between P and Q.
(ii) the reading in the ammeter.
(iii) the electrical power between P and Q. [3]

20. An object of height 4 cm is placed at a distance 24 cm in front of a convex lens of focal length 8 cm. (i)
Find the position and size of the image. [3]

21. A calorimeter of mass 50 g and specific heat capacity 0.42 J g – 1 ℃ - 1 contains some mass of water at
20℃. A metal piece of mass 20 g at 100℃ is dropped into the calorimeter. After stirring, the final
temperature of the mixture is found to be 22℃. Find the mass of water used in the calorimeter. (Specific
heat capacity of the metal piece = 0.3 J g – 1 ℃ - 1, Specific heat capacity of water = 4.2 J g – 1 ℃ - 1). [4]
